Profile

Origin

Unicorns are legendary creatures which appear in many works of art and literature throughout European history. They are described as beasts with a singular horn, though modern interpretations of them often portray them as horses. These horns can perform miracles such as cure any illnesses, and will only open their hearts to women who are pure of heart.

The unicorn originates from 5th-century BC Greek author Ctesias, who claimed that, in India (i.e. the region around the Indus River under Persian control), there are wild asses with a single multi-colored horn that is a cubit long; these asses are white in color and have blue eyes. He claimed that they had ankle-bones unlike other single-hoofed animals, and that their ankle-bone was like that of an ox. He also said drinking out of cups made of their horns could protect a person from convulsions, epilepsy, and poison. Additionally, Ctesias wrote that they run quickly, can shatter anything with their horns, have powerful kicks, and are inedible. In later works, this creature would get the name μονόκερως monókerōs in Greek and unicornis in Latin, both meaning "one-horned". Commentators have interpreted this as the Indian rhinoceros.

Design

Unicorn is typically depicted as a white horse with a matching mane and tail, red eyes, and a single gold horn on its forehead. The horn is long and spiraled.

In Last Bible Special, Unicorn appears as a golden horse.
