Profile

Origin

The Macha is a goddess of war from Irish culture, and one of the three Morrígna alongside her sisters the Morrigan and the Badb. While she is a war goddess like her sisters she is also associated with fertility and nature, with her name translating as "field" or "plain". There are multiple characters from Irish mythology that carry the name Macha, an example coming from the Foras Feasa ar Éirinn being Macha Mong Ruad, meaning "Macha Red Hair", the daughter of the mythological Irish king Áed Rúad, who ruled as the only queen of Ireland before being killed by Rechtaid Rígderg. Another account, O'Mulconry's Glossary, claims the Macha was killed by Balor during the conflict between the Tuatha Dé Danann and the Fomorians.

The Ulster region of Ireland is tied to her, with the sites of Navan Fort and Armagh being named after her. One day she appeared before the widower farmer Cruinniuc and became his wife without revealing her name to him. When she is pregnant with his children, Cruinniuc travels to a festival by the king of Ulster with the Macha warning him that she will stay with him on the condition that she doesn't speak of her. However during a chariot race Cruinniuc boasts that his wife is faster than the kings horses, who then imprisons him and threatens to execute him if his wife doesn't prove Cruinniuc was telling the truth. Despite her pregnancy, she races and wins before immediately collapsing and giving birth to two sons on the finish line. As punishment for her humiliation, the Macha curses the men of Ulster to feel the pain of childbirth in their hour of need. This curse comes into play in the myth Táin Bó Cúailnge, when the curse debilitates the men so they can't defend from the invading forces of Queen Medb, requiring the aid of Cu Chulainn to defend them.

Shin Megami Tensei II (A-Mode DDS)	出身地：アイルランド アイルランドの三相一体の戦女神の一つ。血の赤を象徴し、赤い髪、まつげを持ち、真紅の服を身にまとい、一本足の赤い馬に乗り、戦場を駆け巡る。邪眼の魔王バロールとの戦いで、夫や一族の破滅を幻視し、心臓が張り裂けて命を失う。後の伝説にもしばしば記述され、豊饒の女神としても崇められている。 Translation:
Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2	One of the three Goddesses of Battle appearing in Celtic Mythology, whose name comes from the word for "plain." She is said to guide fighters into a spiral of fury and madness, and then feast upon the heads of those who fall in battle. "Bait for the Fruits of Macha's Tree" refers to a custom in which the heads of enemies would be used to adorn gates as an offering to her. In order to prevent the invasion of a foreign people, she fought against Balor of the Evil Eye, but was slain along with her husband Nuada.
