Junes is a location in the Persona series.

Profile

The Inaba branch of the Junes chain department store is managed by Yosuke Hanamura's father, Yoichi Hanamura.[1] Their slogan is "Every Day, Young Life, Junes" in Japanese and "Everyday's Great at your Junes" in English. Junes opened in the fall of 2010. Many employees are students and housewives looking for part-time work, and wages at Junes start at ¥690 per hour for high school students and ¥900 per hour for adults, though on busy sales days, an employee can make up to ¥8000 per day.[1] However, Yosuke is said to be worked to the bone for a mere ¥400 per hour.[2]

The first floor has a grocery store and a section of smaller specialty stores that sell things such as swimsuits. The grocery department is open 24 hours and puts out ready-made foods at 4pm/7pm/10pm daily. The second floor has a clothing department, home appliances department, and an event space where customers can try out items such as the massage chairs that Teddie uses on July 10th. The roof has a food court, a children's play area, and an event stage.[1] One of the items in the food court is a hearty item called the Ultra Young Set which consists of salisbury steak, beefsteak, menchi katsu, and karaage. The meat used in the Ultra Young Set comes from cows and chickens at a non-domestic farm that Junes is partnered with, but in one of his dungeon chats with the Fox, Yosuke wonders out loud if it is actually fox meat.[2]

The store is located along the national highway in Yasoinaba, the flat area in the center of Inaba city. It gets business from people traveling through Inaba, residents, and people who live in cities near Inaba,[2] such as Okina.[1] Though its opening has caused something of a revitalization of Inaba, it has also caused some stores in the Central Shopping District to close down, and so the locals have mixed feelings towards Junes.

Game Appearances

Persona 4

The protagonist, Yosuke, and Chie visit Junes together on April 13th when Yosuke treats Chie to some steak in the food court. There, they see Saki Konishi taking her break, and she jokes about Yosuke bringing his classmates there so the store makes more money. Chie tells the boys about the Midnight Channel, and the three of them try watching it that night. The protagonist tells his two friends that he was able to stick his hand into his TV. Neither believe him and assume he was dreaming. The three go to look at TVs after school since Chie's family is interested in buying a new TV. While showing Chie some of the cheaper models, the protagonist sticks his hand into a large TV, proving that he was serious. The group panics when they hear other people in the TV section and mistakenly fall into the TV and go to the TV World for the first time. From then on, the group gets into a habit of always entering the TV World through the same TV as they are unsure what will happen if they enter through another TV. They use the food court as their base of operations while they save people from the TV World.

Outside of Investigation Team related activities, the group also uses the Junes food court as a spot for hanging out and studying. During Golden Week, Chie invites the protagonist and Nanako to go out, and they go to Junes together. Nanako in particular is a huge fan of Junes and loves to sing the theme song every time it comes on TV. But many of the townspeople in Inaba seem somewhat untrustful of Junes and even make up conspiracy theories that the thick fog that settles in November is related to Junes.

On March 20th, the protagonist might be inclined to come to the Junes food court one last time after saying his goodbyes around Inaba. The rest of the Investigation Team shows up and together they realize the mystery is not quite over as they still do not know why the protagonist was able to go into the TV to begin with.

Persona 4 Golden

Due to Naoto Shirogane going missing, the Inaba Police Department canceled an event scheduled for October 10th where idol Kanami Mashita was to visit Inaba and become the Honorary Police Chief. This situation puts Yosuke's father in a bind as he had planned for Junes to have a large sale while Kanami was there, and now Yosuke thinks his dad might get fired or transferred if the sale is unsuccessful. Yosuke begs his friends for help, namely for Rise Kujikawa to hold a live event at Junes. She agrees, but only if the rest of the Investigation Team joins her on stage, and the group learns to play instruments for the event as Rise refuses to sing to pre-recorded music. Before the concert, Yosuke sees a person in a teal jumpsuit but does not have time to think about it. The group successfully plays "True Story" and the audience asks for an encore. The boys try diving into the crowd to distract them from the encore request, except the crowd parts immediately, and Kanji and Yosuke land face first while the protagonist poses with his bass.

Later in the month, Junes organizes a Halloween event and asks the protagonist to help him decorate the food court for Halloween. Only after do the two learn the event was already canceled. Yosuke apologizes and gives the protagonist a set of Halloween costumes as a gift.

The central plot line in the first Persona 4 audio drama is that the Junes electronics department sales are poor and the large display TV the Investigation Team has been using might get moved. Out of desperation due to that being their consistent way into the TV World, Yosuke attempts to get someone to buy a TV so the display model can stay there. At the end, Chie convinces her parents to buy a new, fancy TV from Junes.
