Harley, known as Harley Q in Japanese and in Quantum Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner, is a character in Digital Devil Saga series.

Profile

Harley is the leader of the Vanguards. Prior to his infection by the Atma virus, he is emotionless. After being infected and witnessing the slaughter of his troops, he becomes terrified of the Embryon and demons. When he is cornered, he seemingly goes mad and tries to kill the Embryon himself.

Harley is present at the initial conflict between the Vanguards and the Embryon at Ground Zero, initially suspecting that the mysterious object there is the Embryon's. When it explodes and the inhabitants of the Junkyard are infected by the Atma virus, the Embryon and the Vanguards transform into berserk demons. The Embryon slaughter and devour most of the Vanguards there, forcing them to retreat and terrifying Harley.

Seeking answers, the Embryon enter Svadhisthana. Harley awakens to his personality due to his fear of the Embryon and nearly transforms into Hayagriva after trying to kill them, but he stops and flees once he sees his men transforming into Ghouls. The Embryon corner Harley, who goes mad and transforms into Hayagriva to kill the Embryon, but is ultimately killed himself.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2

Harley's Solar Data appears in the Sun, guarding the entrance to the 3rd layer. He is shivering and exasperatedly repeats what he said just before attacking the party at Svadhisthana, and transforms into Hayagriva. During the battle he expresses the same paranoia about being eaten and repeats "Eat or be Eaten" like a mantra.

Quantum Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner I

Harley Q appears in person at the border between Svadhisthana and Muladhara with a number of Vanguards soldiers, which Serph notes is unusual for him, as he prefers guerrilla tactics. The Embryon attack, planning to draw out Harley and kill him, ending the battle despite the disparity between their forces. The battle is interrupted by the mysterious black object at the location, which opens and covers the battlefield in blinding white light and interferes with communication systems. Harley grows several black appendages, which attack nearby soldiers, while others gain Atma. The Embryon devour many of the Vanguards, forcing them to retreat.

Most of the Vanguards fall victim to hunger, becoming pools of black liquid. Harley, despite his grievances, devoured them and felt glee at consuming information. The Embryon arrive at Svadhisthana seeking answers, chasing Harley to the Vanguards's war room. Harley, horrified, answers their questions, but Argilla snaps and shoots him upon hearing that they devoured. Harley survives the gunshots, then absorbs all of the black substance around him, becoming a large mass, which attacks the Embryon with tentacles. This prompts the Embryon to transform into their demon forms and fight back, eventually killing him. Heat stays behind to devour the remains, while the others leave, nearly falling victim to hunger themselves if not for Sera's timely appearance.

Quantum Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner II

The karma of the Junkyard's dead denizens, now containing information that the Church's systems could not purify, gathers and gains physical mass, becoming a living mass of negative emotions that is driven by hunger. Harley Q's death was the first one in the amalgam's memory, and remembering Serph in particular causes it fear, anger and hunger.

When the amalgamation attacks Anahata, its surface takes the shape of the faces of the many people that are a part of it, including Harley.
