Svadhisthana is a location in the Junkyard in Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner. It is the headquarters of the Vanguards tribe and the first dungeon in the game.

Gameplay

The Vanguards Base acts as the tutorial for the game. There are no random encounters until after the first forced battle against two Ghouls. The central mechanic of the dungeon is the use of walls which can be raised or lowered by a corresponding switch, and can be used as bridges when in the raised position. One of the switches is guarded by a Cockatrice to teach the player about the Press Turn System, and a forced battle against two Empusa serves to teach the Embryon about Shield skills. The boss of the Vanguards Base is Harley's Atma Avatar, Hayagriva.

After the events in the Deserted Ship, the party is summoned to the east of Svadhisthana to first enter the Samsara Tunnels.

After acquiring the Red Key, the party can unlock access to most of B1 and all of B2, which contains higher-level encounters and the first fight against Beelzebub.

Svadhistana is the first location the Embryon visit after the Junkyard is infected with the Atma virus during their battle against the Vanguards. Inside, they find Harley, who awakens to his emotions at the sight of the Embryon and the memory of them devouring his men, then flees in fear when he sees his guards begin to transform into Ghouls. Harley is cornered by the Embryon, who then transforms into Hayagriva, but is subsequently killed, giving the Embryon control over the Vanguards as per the rules of the Junkyard.

Later, after the events of the Deserted Ship, Lupa of the Wolves summons the Embryon to Svadhisthana to form an alliance against the Brutes, having been defeated by them already, and leads the Embryon to the Samsara Tunnels.

Heat goes to Svadhisthana in Chapter 9 to hunt for food, after having a conversation with Serph regarding their fight atop Coordinate 136, which left Serph injured. Heat thinks about the hidden meaning of their conversation, but is interrupted by Serph, who catches him thinking out loud. Heat scolds Serph for not resting, then lets him have some Onmoraki that he had defeated. After talking about their fight some more, Serph suggests they should properly settle the score when the time comes, which Heat accepts.

Nomenclature

Svadhisthana is derived from the Sanskrit स्वाधिष्ठान svādhiṣṭhāna meaning "self-established". It is one of the six chakras in Tantric tradition, located between the coccyx and the sacrum.
