Origin

The Xuanwu (玄武), or Black Warrior, is one of the Four Symbols, constellations that represent various things in Chinese culture. The Xuanwu represents the north, winter, and water.

Although many English compendium entries in the Megami Tensei franchise classify Xuanwu as a member of the Ssu-Ling (Simplified Chinese: 四灵four spirits, Traditional Chinese: 四靈four spirits, romanized Sìlíng), it is a member of the Ssu-Hsiang (Chinese: 四象four symbols, romanized Sìxiàng).
