Races, also referred to as OrderPersona
or Kin,[a] are groupings of Demons in the Megami Tensei franchise. Demons are grouped into certain Races based on their common characteristics or origins and may sometimes share similar affinities. For instance, the Fairy Race largely consists of Demons based on faerie folk or nature spirits with an affinity for magic skills. Races are predominately present in the Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei games, the Shin Megami Tensei series, the Majin Tensei series, the Devil Summoner series (except for the Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha games), and the Devil Survivor series.

Races are closely tied with the Demon Fusion mechanic, in which fusing two Demons of different Races can result in an entirely different Demon. Fusing two Demons of the same Race produces a Demon in the Element Race, which itself can be fused with a fourth Demon to result in a higher- or lower-leveled Demon of the same Race. In the Shin Megami Tensei series, Demon Races are also associated with a particular Alignment that its members all share; this largely determines which Demons the protagonist can or cannot recruit through Negotiation. Races have mechanical equivalents in some other series. In the Persona series, Personas and Shadows are grouped into Arcana. In the Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha sub-series of games, Demons are grouped into Orders. In Last Bible and Last Bible Special, Beasts are sorted into Groups which work similarly to Races, but incorporates elements of Personality.
