Alp is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Alp is a variant spelling of Alb, the German cognate of the word "elf".[a] In German folklore, elves, also called Mahre ("mares"; cf. Nightmare), were believed to sit on a person's chest while they are sleeping, which was thought to be the cause of nightmares (which are called Albträume, "elf dreams", in German).

Design

Alp's design is based on the actress Kumiko Goto's appearance as a devil mascot from a series of Calpis soft drink commercials.[1]

  1. ↑ Elves in modern fiction are usually called the English word Elf instead of the native German word Alb. German translations of J. R. R. Tolkien's writings use Elb.
