Pazuzu[a] is a wind deity in ancient Babylonian and Assyrian religion who is both helpful and harmful to humans.

Design

In Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II, Pazuzu is depicted as a human with two pairs of insect wings and a tail. His head has pointed ears and hair resembling a mohawk.

Since Shin Megami Tensei II, Pazuzu is depicted as a human with a lion's head, two pairs of avian wings and feet resembling a bird's feet. His mane is white and has four protrusions resembling a mohawk, and his body hair, which covers his upper body and pelvis, is brown. According to Kazuma Kaneko, this design is based on the statue that appeared in a certain film[1] (presumably The Exorcist). In the Chinese version of Persona 5: The Phantom X, Pazuzu's hair is extended to cover more of his pelvis and upper thighs.

The pose Pazuzu does in his in-game sprites in Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II and his artwork for Shin Megami Tensei II appears to be based off of real-life bronze figurines of Pazuzu.
