Aniel
Aniel is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
Haniel is an angel who appears in Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy. The given Hebrew spelling is האניאל. Haniel is one of the seven angels who stand before the face of God (Revelation 8:2), and he oversees the planet Venus.[1][2] In a table showing correspondences of groups of nine, Haniel corresponds to the sephira Nezah and to the principality order of angels.[3] Of the names of God, he corresponds to the name Sabaoth.[4]
The angel of Venus is named Anael in Pseudo-Peter of Abano's Heptameron[5] and in Johannes Trithemius's De septem secundeis.
Design
Aniel's design in Shin Megami Tensei resembles traditional Christian depictions of seraphim.

Aniel is an angel working with the Messian Church and is one of the angels overseeing the Basilica's construction.[6] In order to halt the Basilica's completion, Echidna requests the Hero to slay him. If the Hero is chaos-aligned when he meets Law Hero in Shinagawa, or if he refuses Law Hero's request to slay Echidna, Aniel intervenes and attacks the Hero, seeing that he will not be persuaded to their side. If the Hero does slay Echidna and returns to Law Hero, Aniel will appear, pleased with the Hero, and ask him to continue supporting the Messians in their efforts to create the Millennium Kingdom. If the Hero agrees, Aniel connects a bridge from the Shinagawa to the Basilica for him, though if the Hero refuses, he will angrily attack him only to be defeated.
