Cleopatra is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator,[a] known commonly as Cleopatra, meaning "glory of the father" in Greek, was the Pharaoh of Egypt from the years from 51 BCE to 30 BCE, and she was effectively the last Pharaoh of Egypt.[b] A descendant of Ptolemy I Soter, Cleopatra was part of the Greek Ptolemaic dynasty that had ruled over Egypt since the time of Alexander the Great, and she is believed to have been the only Ptolemaic ruler to have learned the Egyptian language. With her death between August 10th and 12th of 30 BCE, Egypt fell under the rule of the Roman Empire, signaling the end of an independent Egyptian state.
Historical fact and myth have made details about her life and death somewhat obscure, with historians suggesting that her political enemies spread propaganda that lingered into modern mythology. While it is agreed that she committed suicide, the commonly stated method of having a venomous snake bite her is debated. Other sources suggest she injected herself with poison through the use of a needle.
Design
Cleopatra was designed my Masayuki Doi for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, who states he struggled with designing Cleopatra due to her being a historical figure rather than a mythological one. In order to capture her legacy of "peerless beauty", he chose to exaggerate the proportions of her body and give her a pale complexion and incorporated the stories involving her and snakes by having the coil around her arms like whips.[1] Cleopatra is a pale woman with platinum hair wearing little clothing that take mild inspiration from Egyptian kalasiris, with a top and dress slit down each side exposing the entire length of her legs, with her cleavage and waist exposed. She wears golden jewelry of traditional Egyptian design such as an Usekh collar and jeweled bracelets and arm bands along with less traditional golden bands that wrap around her whole leg. She wears a crown with what resembles a uraeus however the cobra is a living snake emerging from her forehead. While her left hand is human, her right hand is instead several snakes that all sprout from her right arm.

More specifically, "Cleopatra VII." Her name means "glory of the father" in Greek. She is known as one of the greatest beauties ever to live, having charmed many with her musical voice and conversation skills. It is said that all of history would have unfolded differently had even her nose been longer or shorter. |

Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse
- Main article: Coastal Inverted Pyramid
Cleopatra appears in the DLC Challenge Quest, Coastal Inverted Pyramid. Her followers have been kidnapping girls from around Tokyo to be sacrificed and have parts of their body taken to build a body for Cleopatra, with Asahi being abducted for her nose. She becomes available for special fusion after defeating her.
Shin Megami Tensei V
Cleopatra is the boss of the The Rage of a Queen DLC subquest. Formerly the leader of the Egyptian branch of Bethel, she had been recently dismissed and driven from her position by her subordinates, making her hold a grudge against the organization as a whole. Worrying about any retaliation, the Nahobino is sent to locate her in order to determine if she is a threat, and if so, eliminate her. Finding her in Mita, Cleopatra is shocked and angered at Bethel's treatment of her despite all she had done in service of it. She vows revenge against Bethel, then attacks the Nahobino in a rage, though after she is defeated, she attempts to take her own life to avoid feeling any greater shame.
Should the Nahobino do nothing, she follows through on the act and leaves behind Magnetite Powder, which he can bring to a Bethel researcher to use to recreate her and make her join his party.
Should the Nahobino stop her, she will be angered and think that he intends to steal her freedom to the very end, but then realizes that he is actually protecting her, so she decides to abide by his will and join his party freely.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
In the Canon of Creation, Cleopatra is revealed to have become a goddess as a result of the people of Egypt deifying her when she was pharaoh.[2]
Cleopatra was added as an additional Quest Navigator via free DLC released on November 4th 2024. She can be found in Mita after completing the quest The Rage of a Queen and asks the Nahobino if she may join him.

- ↑ "Masayuki Doi: I had a lot of trouble with Cleopatra, since she’s the demonisation of a historical character. First, I made use of her Greek origins to give her pale skin. Then I added factors that would underline her ‘peerless beauty’, like the exaggerated proportions and paleness. There are also numerous anecdotes containing the snake, so I made her head ornament out of live snakes and added a few more to coil around her arms, so she would be able to use them as whips in order to make men or her enemies submit to her."
