Profile

Origin

Bastet, also known as Bast, Ubasti, and Bubastis, is the Egyptian goddess of cats. A protector goddess depicted either as a cat or a woman with the head, Bastet is the guardian of pregnancy and childbirth, as well as protecting against diseases and evil spirits. She served her father Ra in the ceaseless battle against Apophis, being depicted as decapitated the serpent with a knife. She has connections to the lion goddess Sekhmet, with some depictions characterising them as aspects of the same goddess.

Bubastis was identified with Artemis by the Greeks.
