Due to the nature of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and it's multiple 'episodes', Labrys' role varies between the two. These will be divided into sub-sections for ease of reading.
==== Episode P3 ==== | |||
The day after the events of the P-1 Climax, Labrys is under repairs for the damage she sustained during the previous day's events. Her consciousness had been shut down for the process, and while it was she began dreaming. In this dream she met Elizabeth, who had informed her that this was not a dream and instead the World within People's Hearts. Elizabeth, excited about Labrys newfound power due to awakening her Persona, insists on a battle to test that power. After this battle, Elizabeth warns of an ordeal coming her way, and Labrys soon wakes up to an alarm blaring and Detective Kurosawa explaining that the car that Mitsuru Kirijo and Fuuka Yamagishi, Akihiko Sanada were on is missing. Additionally, Public Safety raided the lab that Labrys is stationed in to try and retrieve her, leading her and Detective Kurosawa to escape to the roof where a helicopter awaits. On the helicoper is Ken Amada, Koromaru, Yukari Takeba and Mitsuru's maid, Kikuno Saikawa. Kikuno fills the group in on the situation, as well as providing Yukari and Ken with Evokers and weapons, and providing Labrys with documents pertaining to the events of 3 years ago. Shortly after this, a red fog permeates the town and effects similar to the Dark Hour occur. General Teddie appears on a monitor and mocks the cast before shooting fireworks at the helicopter, causing Kikuno to have to retreat. She drops the group off at Junes, but not before giving Labrys an SD card with information on a Project_PUPPETMASTER, a project involving a Plume of Dusk and mentioning Sho Minazuki, that Shuji Ikutsuki was the leader of. Labrys, Yukari, Ken and Koromaru split up after that, all trusting eachother to stay safe and find Mitsuru's group.
Labrys makes it to the distorted entrance to Yasogami High School, where she encounters a fake Yu Narukami crafted from Shadows. After a brief exchange with the intent of making Labrys falter, they battle, and the Shadow is defeated. Ken Amada and Koromaru meet up with Labrys after this, and they exchange information about what had happened so far while they were separated. Suddenly, Theodore appears, introducing himself and asking if they've seen his sister, Elizabeth, before departing. After this, Ken, Koromaru and Labrys head into the school to search for their friends. They find Akihiko crucified in the Music Room, and help him down. Junpei joins them, but is quickly found out to be a Fake and dispatched by Labrys. After this, Labrys and the group go higher up the distorted school until they find Mitsuru in a room near-identical to the entrance hall of Tartarus, also crucified. Before they can get her down, a Fake Aigis can be seen fighting Yu Narukami, Chie Satonaka and Yosuke Hanamura. The Fake Aigis speaks to Labrys, trying to goad her into faltering yet again, but it doesn't work and they fight. Labrys is victorious and destroys the Shadow. The group shares and exchanges information on what's happened so far, while Ken and Labrys try to get Mitsuru off of the cross. Before they can, Shuji Ikutsuki shows up, to the surprise of most of the group. Aigis and Labrys detect he is a fake like the others, causing the fake Ikutsuki to disappear and be replaced with Sho Minazuki, who introduces himself to the group. Labrys recognizes the name from the data of Project_PUPPETMASTER, to which Sho responds that Ikutsuki is his dad, that everyone was in his way, and that he would kill them all.
Labrys feels a reaction from the Plume of Dusk within Sho and attempts to reach out, but is attacked and subsequently uses a Remote Controller to take over Labrys' body, with this being made specifically for her 13 years ago. Using this, Sho makes Labrys attack the group, who's attempt to steal the controller away from him is stopped by Sho. Sho sends an order via the controller to kill Mitsuru, who is still crucified. Sho continues to make commands to overpower Labrys' willpower, and the sheer amount causes her to lose consciousness. Inside her mind, Labrys speaks with her Shadow, who explains that Labrys body is special; She was loaded with a Black Box that was meant for the memory transfer of her sisters on Yakushima once she destroyed them, and once she accepted her Shadow, it's personality was stored in it as well. Shadow Labrys takes over Labrys body, mocking Sho before summoning her Persona, Asterius, and battling him. She breaks the remote in the process and goes to finish him off, but is stopped by Yu Narukami and his friends. Shadow Labrys gives control of Labrys' body back to her, but not before Labrys gives her a thanks for saving her. When she comes back, she talks to Sho about the feelings in the Plume of Dusk, and that he is lonely inside. Sho loses his temper and Minazuki, another personality inside of him awoken by the Plume of Dusk, takes over. Once he does, Minazuki uses a borrowed power from the Malevolent Entity to force everyone to stop moving. Minazuki leaves, and a Fake Yukiko Amagi appears. Once defeated, Labrys rushes to free Mitsuru from the cross. Everyone gathers to share information, and compile info on Sho. Labrys confides in Mitsuru about the resonations she felt within her Plume of Dusk, and expresses a desire to try to talk Sho down and save him before he destroys the world. Mitsuru approves of this and sends Labrys off.
Ascending the tower with Junpei, Yukari, Ken and Koromaru, they encounter General Teddie, who wishes to battle them to deal with them himself. Labrys fights him and wins, but it seems to have no effect on him, and General Teddie simply disappears without being destroyed. Labrys' group continues ascending, meeting Sho on an exposed platform that happens to be the place Shuji Ikutsuki died. Labrys attempts to reach out to him, causing Sho to go into a tantrum and Minazuki to take over once more. Labrys attempts to talk Minazuki into standing down as this isn't what Sho really wants, and that she won't let him destroy the world. Minazuki and Labrys fight shortly after, with Labrys winning. Minazuki escapes, with a flood of Shadows rising up the tower. Yukari, Ken, Junpei and Koromaru tell Labrys to go after Minazuki, and she ascends higher on the tower. While she ascends, she meets Theodore yet again, who comments on her growth compared to last time they met. Labrys continues to ascend after this, with Fuuka contacting her to give her the password for the Project_PUPPETMASTER files, which she reviews during her ascent. Upon reaching the top of the tower she sees Sho after he was finished beating up Tohru Adachi for betraying him, and Sho lashes out at Labrys, asking her what happened to Minazuki after her interaction with him. Labrys says she doesn't know, and shortly after begins to fill Sho in on the data in Project_PUPPETMASTER, which was recordings of Ikutsuki's experiments on Sho, including his desire to hurt people really meaning that he wants a connection with them. Sho gets angry and attempts to fight Labrys. Labrys accepts this challenge, accepting the fight his way. After her victory, Labrys explains more about the data she unlocked in Project_PUPPETMASTER, including that Ikutsuki tried to erase Minazuki and that Minazuki, in trying to protect Sho, tried to kill Ikutsuki. Labrys tells Sho that he is like her, and was never alone, but they are inturrupted shortly after by General Teddie, who reveals himself as Hi-no-Kagutsuchi. He also reveals his plan; using the Persona Fragments from every fight so far as well as a mass of Shadows, he will gain a true form and incinerate the world. Labrys prepares to fight what she considers her arch-nemesis, and hears the voices of everyone cheering her on. With this power, she defeats Hi-no-Kagutsuchi, and it fades away into nothing.
After Hi-no-Kagutsuchi's defeat, the distorted tower began to collapse. Elizabeth shows up and thanks Labrys for defeating it, explaining that she had a reason to see it's end. After this, she offers to transport everyone somewhere safe, which Labrys accepts. They are all transported back to the main hub of the TV, where Sho and Labrys have another talk, with Sho eventually leaving on good terms, and Labrys sensing a bond between the two. Mitsuru requests a report and, thanks to some subtle nudging by Akihiko and the other Shadow Operatives, she doesn't say anything about where Sho went.
During the Epilogue, Labrys visits the grave of the girl who was used as a template for the 5th Generation Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapons. She expresses her thankfulness but wishes she could do more to repay her. A mother and her child show up to the grave, offering flowers to it. Labrys asks about them, and finds out the child has the same illness as the girl had, and thanks to her sacrifice that he can go to school and live a happy life. Once they leave, Labrys asks if she can call her 'mom', and vows to protect the world that all the lives the girl saved reside, and to do so as a Shadow Operative.
==== Episode P4 ==== | |||
This episode focuses on more of the Persona 4 Cast, so Labrys' role is relatively short compared to the Episode P3. Labrys calls Naoto Shirogane from the helicopter that picked her up, bringing her up to speed on what happened at the headquarters with Public Safety's raid and Mitsuru Kirijo going missing. This call is cut off by the 'Dark Hour-like' effects of the P-1 Climax beginning. Labrys appears to protect Naoto when Minazuki is about to kill her, refusing to back down from him. This persists even when a Fake Naoto appears alongside a screen showing General Teddie. Naoto informs Ken and Yukari of Mitsuru's location within the tower, leaving the Fake Naoto to Labrys. Once defeated, Naoto collapses, and Labrys helps her up by offering a shoulder to lean on. After exchanging information and talking about their friends, they make their way to the others.
Labrys and Naoto appear as Minazuki is about to give a fatal strike to Yu Narukami and block it with their personas. Labrys gets ready to fight even though she is exhausted, only for Tohru Adachi to make an excuse as to how it's a bad idea. Minazuki starts to leave, but Labrys, Naoto and Yu surround him. Minazuki uses a power borrowed from General Teddie to immobilize them, and leaves. A Fake Mitsuru appears, and the group are forced to deal with it instead. After this, Labrys brings up her suspicions of Sho having a Plume of Dusk to Yu Narukami and his friends. After Naoto considers it a possibility, Labrys and Naoto lend their shoulders to Chie and Yosuke and carry them up towards the top of the tower. They find the real Mitsuru crucified, and guarded by a Fake Aigis, who attempts to talk down to and try to convince Labrys to join her to take revenge on humans. Labrys admits that while she does hate some humans, she likes the rest, so she won't give in. Labrys is unable to battle the Fake Aigis due to holding up Chie, so Naoto protects her. Once the Fake Aigis is defeated, they free Mitsuru, and gather the info they know so far, including the fact that Ikutsuki is Sho's father and that he experimented on him. After regrouping, a wave of Shadows appears, and everyone starts to do battle. Labrys is one of the people who encourages Yu Narukami to go and stop Sho.
During the True End of Episode P4, Labrys is seen joking and having fun at the celebration party for completing the case. Eventually, she steps away, prompting Yu Narukami to ask what's wrong. Labrys explains that she didn't get a good look at the town before, so she wants to now. Labrys bows to Yu in appreciation for helping her feel so welcome after being asleep for so long. Labrys thanks Yu, and assures him that Sho will be alright. Labrys then thanks him and tells him she will do her best.

Labrys is a main character in Persona 4 Arena. She is an Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon and member of the Shadow Operatives like her sister Aigis. She works under Mitsuru Kirijo.
Profile
Labrys is an Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon created by the Kirijo Group two generations before Aigis. She first appears on Yakushima where she is first activated and where her Story Mode in Persona 4 Arena takes place. When she was first activated, Labrys' thoughts were simple and consisted of technical statements, but over time in her Story Mode grow in eloquence and emotion until she is forced to destroy her closest friend, Unit #024. Labrys broke free of her restraints and ran, though was eventually captured and sealed away until the events of Persona 4 Arena, 13 years later.
During Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Labrys is shown caring individual who doesn't want to hurt anyone she cares about, but is willing to fight to protect them. She is strong and confident in her demeanor, but also has a playful and friendly side, shown when she allows Teddie's request to be her Knight or carrying Detective Kurosawa to the roof of the building they were escaping from. She is still naïve about the world.
Labrys was designed with a white and silver exterior, pale skin, light blue hair styled into a ponytail, red eyes, and a large transformable Labrys axe attached to her back that doubles as wings with the use of built-in thrusters. Her outfit consists of the Yasogami High School summer uniform.
Gameplay
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
In Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Labrys is a heavy offensive character that operates based on momentum. Unique to Labrys, she gains more damage based on her axe tiers that increase the more she attacks with her axe, blocked or not. When it reaches red, all axe attacks have added hitstun, cause Fatal Counters whenever a normal Counter hit would be made, and do the maximum amount of damage with which even her auto combo can reach extremely high damage.

Persona 4 Arena
Labrys was originally Unit #031, one of the many models of Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapons created by the Kirijo Group to gather test data on Yakushima. Due to her larger Plume of Dusk, she began showing signs of emotion upon activation and developed her ego at a quicker rate than the other units, including an accent unique to her. In between being forced to kill her sister units for combat data and inheriting their memories, she and the other units were let outside to mingle amongst eachother. Here, #031 meets and befriends Unit 024, an older unit who was more emotionally developed than the others, who serves as #031's only friend alongside Snowy, a white dog that #024 found and cared for. Eventually, #031 is dubbed "Fifth Generation Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon Labrys" and is told testing will soon be done. Upon telling Unit #024 this news, #024 told Labrys about her personal goal to find a certain someone, and gave Labrys an archive with a request that she was not to open it until it was all over. Later, Labrys is ordered to destroy her remaining sister units in an attempt to bring out her Persona through mental stress, despite Labrys' protests. This includes Unit #024, who Labrys is forced to fight, but her attempts to disarm her and spare her life are made useless when the scientists hijack #024's body and force Labrys to destroy her. Labrys inherits #024's memories and notices a voice, later revealed to be the girl whose personality was used as the basis of the personality of the early Anti-Shadow Weapons, and that #024 wanted to meet her and thank her for loving them.
This causes Labrys to cry, which the scientists notice and comment on. One suggests deleting her 'sentimental memories' as they believe a weapon has no use of them. Enraged at this and the treatment of her sisters, Labrys breaks out of her restraints and attempts to fight her way out of the facility and escape the island, but only manages to make it to the pier on the beach. Seeing the ocean for the first time, Labrys makes a wish that one of her successors would stand on this pier and find the person they are searching for, and that they would be able to go where she could not. Labrys then willingly surrendered and, due to the damages she inflicted upon the facility, was deactivated instead, and her memory was transferred to all later units such as Aigis.
13 years later, Labrys would be found by the Kirijo Group under Mitsuru Kirijo, though after receiving Labrys' container from Yakushima, the plane Mitsuru was on was hijacked and Labrys was stolen and taken to Inaba, where she was thrown into the TV. During this time, Labrys dreams of the girl she and #024 wanted to meet, and from that girl gets the idea of becoming a student council president. A voice appears in Labrys' head and shows her vision of Yasogami High School, offering her the chance to go to school and be the student council president. Labrys is brainwashed by the malevolent entity into thinking that she is the human student council president and that the school she is in is the real Yasogami High School.
In reality, the fake school was Labrys' dungeon in the TV World, created by her desire to be understood and accepted as a normal girl and her trauma over being forced to kill her fellow Anti-Shadow Weapons. This caused her dungeon to take the form of Yasogami High School and the P-1 Grand Prix, and allowed her to become the Student Countil President of the fake school. Labrys is part of the plan set up by the Malevolent Entity, who seeks to manipulate Persona users to fight each other so their Personas regress into Shadow Selves, which will absorb to create a body that lets him burn the world into ashes.
She runs into Elizabeth, who attempts to show Labrys the truth, and while Labrys fights her off, she is haunted by her words and is reminded of her promise to #024. Once the other Persona users of the Investigation Team and some of the Shadow Operatives groups arrive in the Arena and start causing problems, Labrys attempts to stop them, still believing in her Student Council President role. Mitsuru and Aigis realize who she is, but she is captured by "General Teddie," actually her Shadow in disguise, who goads her into rejecting it so it can go berserk.
After the Shadow is defeated, Labrys accepts her flaws with the help of both the Shadow Operatives and the Investigation Team and awakens her own Persona, Ariadne. Despite the incident seeming resolved, Labrys' mind is suddenly hacked by the human culprit outside the TV, and is controlled by the culprit to attack the player, before being freed by either Fuuka or the player fighting off Labrys. During the epilogue, Labrys joins with her sister Aigis and the Shadow Operatives, vowing to find the culprit of this incident, and they also vow to find the girl she and #024 wished to meet. Aigis also reveals that Labrys' wish came true as Aigis met the Hero of Persona 3 on the same pier, being able to leave the island and find happiness.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
Due to the nature of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and it's multiple 'episodes', Labrys' role varies between the two. These will be divided into sub-sections for ease of reading.
Episode P3
Episode P4

Trivia
- In Japanese, Labrys speaks in the Kansai dialect. It became an East Coast accent in the English Arena games and also BBTAG. In both English Arena manga, it became a Southern accent instead.
Nomenclature
Labrys is the Lydian word for a double-headed axe. Labrys herself is stated to have been specifically named after the axe wielded by the Minotaur in Greek folklore[2] (note that the Minotaur does not actually wield an axe, although both the Labrys and Minotaur are associated with the Labyrinth).
