Shadow Yukiko is a character in Persona series. It is the Shadow of Yukiko Amagi.
Profile
Shadow Yukiko is the Shadow of Yukiko Amagi which manifests after she is thrown into the TV World. Contrary to Yukiko's image as a traditional Japanese girl who works in a traditional Japanese inn, her Shadow is a princess wearing a gown who resides in a large castle. After being rejected by Yukiko, the Shadow transforms into a red bird in a cage. Shigenori Soejima used this to depict Yukiko's belief that her future has already been decided and her wish to escape.[1]
Gameplay
During the boss battle, Shadow Yukiko summons the Charming Prince.
Game Appearances
On the evening of April 16th, there is a clear broadcast on the Midnight Channel of Yukiko saying she will score a stud. Once inside the TV World, the protagonist, Yosuke Hanamura, Chie Satonaka, and Teddie venture into Yukiko's Castle to save Yukiko. As they go through the dungeon, they encounter Shadow Yukiko, who talks about her search for a prince who will take her away. Periodically, they also hear her voice, again asking for her prince. While the real Yukiko was reserved with boys who asked her out, her Shadow is talkative and constantly fawns over her imaginary prince charming.
On the top floor of the castle, the group finds the real Yukiko and her Shadow. Her Shadow used to consider Chie to be her prince, but now she feels that Chie can't help her. Shadow Yukiko sees the Amagi Inn and training to be the next manager as things that hold her down, and she wishes someone would take her away from Inaba as she does not think she is strong enough to leave on her own. After hearing her Shadow insult the inn repeatedly, Yukiko rejects her Shadow, saying that she's not her. Shadow Yukiko then transforms into a red bird in an open cage and attacks the Investigation Team. During the battle, she calls the Charming Prince to her aid. But after being summoned once, the Charming Prince no longer appears, and Shadow Yukiko remarks that she had the wrong idea about her prince. After the fight, Yukiko tells her Shadow that she really did think about running away and wishing someone would save her, though she does not accept her Shadow's harsh words towards the Amagi Inn.[2] She acknowledges that her Shadow is her, and Shadow Yukiko turns into Konohana Sakuya.
During Yukiko's Priestess Social Link, she takes her Shadow's words to heart. She confides in the protagonist that she wants to run away from Inaba, not inherit the inn, and be self-sufficient. For this, Yukiko begins studying to become an interior decorator and learning how to cook so she can live on her own. However, after hearing a TV crew insult the Amagi Inn, she realizes she cares about the inn and the people there. She changes her mind and decides to stay, explaining to the protagonist that she never was bothered by the idea of taking over the inn, but people in Inaba—such as Chie[3]—assuming she was taking over the inn made her feel like she had no agency.
