Fear is a recurring status Ailment in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Fear is an ailment that makes the afflicted target more vulnerable to incoming attacks or forces them to do detrimental actions on their turn, including running from battle.

Gameplay

Megami Ibunroku Persona

Characters inflicted with the Fear ailment may randomly flee from battle.

Additionally, Ghastly Wail will kill Feared targets, and attacks have an increased Critical Hit rate against feared targets.

Persona 4

In Persona 4 and Golden, a target that has been Feared might not act on their turn, or they might run from battle. A character who runs from battle will not return to the party until after. In Persona 4, it lasts up to 3 turns.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

When a target is Feared, the first hit of every combo done against them becomes a Fatal Counter, and they're unable to stop opponent throws. Fear clears after hitting an opponent, or after a set amount of time.

Digital Devil Saga series

Fear is an ailment that may be randomly inflicted upon an enemy if their weakness is exploited or upon any enemy if their turn ends by nullifying an attack, unless they are already afflicted with another ailment. Enemies that are afraid take additional damage from Hunt skills and Fatal Hunt skills are more likely to succeed against them. Once the party's turn ends, any enemies that were afraid lose Fear.
