Origin

A pishacha[a] is a flesh-eating, corpse-like spirit in Hinduism and Buddhism. In Sino-Japanese sutras, it is transcribed as 畢舎遮 Hisshasha or 毘舎遮 Bishasha. Buddhism generally recognizes pishachas as a kind of preta. The San Fadu Lun[b] classifies pishachas as being a being reborn as a hungry ghost. Along with ghandarvas, pishachas are led by Jikokuten.[1]

A type of Hindi preta that eats human bodies. They are dirty, ugly demons that appear at crematories after dusk. They can suck the life out of living beings and plants, and can curse humans to death. Those possessed by Pisaca eat the flesh of the dead.
