Crossroads of Fate: Laboratory Arc Part 1 is an expansion for Persona 5: The Phantom X. It is the second chapter in the Crossroads of Fate collaboration with Persona 5 Royal and explores an alternate version of Maruki's Palace.

Gameplay

Event Stages

The event stages serve as a storyline of the event, in which the party explores a mysterious laboratory palace that also contains elements of the Dam Palace and its control area. Within the stages themselves, Wonder and his party can encounter Shadows on the field that initiate a battle containing enemies on that stage's enemy list. He can also attack destructible objects to earn Konpaku Gems, open treasure chests for Meta Jewels, and defeat optional bosses to increase that stage's Exploration Progress counter, which are tied to event mission rewards. Additionally, stages feature Proof of Sincerity pickups on the field which each grant 10 Abnormal Rebel Coins for use in the Thieves' Exchange.

Recollections of Fate

In Recollections of Fate, Wonder and his party must defeat a Macabre referred to as Dancer of Dreams accompanied by Pale Rider and Red Rider. There are 30 difficulty levels, referred to as Distortion Levels. At Distortion Level 1, Dancer of Dreams will be at level 26 and gain 2 levels each Distortion Level, up to level 84 at Distortion Level 30. Additionally, certain Distortion Levels apply special conditions to the battle. Upon clearing each Distortion Level, that level (and any levels below it) are unlocked in Stamina Mode, in which Wonder can challenge that stage for 60 stamina to earn Wonder EXP, Abnormal Rebel Coins, and Konpaku Gems. In Stamina Mode, the party receives a buff that makes clearing that stage much easier.

Distortion Level Effects
Level Effect
1 All foes' damage taken is decreased by 10%.
5 Dancer of Dreams's Punishing Whip decrease the target's Defense by 50% more for 2 turns.
10 The chance for White Rider's[sic] Brain Shake to inflict Brainwash is increased to 50%, and the duration is extended by 1 turn.
15 Red Rider's Appeal to Retreat decrease the Highlight gauge by 80% of its current amount, and defeating Red Rider will not restore the Highlight gauge.
20 Dancer of Dreams's Ephemeral Sustenance restores more HP, and permanently increases Dancer of Dreams's final damage by 5%.
26 The interval between Dancer of Dreams summoning Shadows is decreased by 1 turn. Also, the time taken for Ephemeral Sustenance to sacrifice a Shadow is decreased by 1 turn.
28 All foes' Defense is increased by 20%.
29 All foes' max HP is increased by 20%.
30 All foes' Attack is increased by 20%.
Stamina Mode Party's final damage is greatly increased, and their damage taken is greatly decreased. Before allies' actions, all foes' affinities change to Weak.

Boss

The following stats are based on Distortion Level 25.

The boss fight against Dancer of Dreams has two phases. The first phase will begin with Dancer of Dreams summoning Pale Rider, with Red Rider being summoned two turns later. After three turns, one of the summoned Shadows will be sacrificed with Ephemeral Sustenance to restore HP to Dancer of Dreams. Pale Rider will have access to Brain Shake and attempt to inflict Brainwash, while Red Rider will have Appeal to Retreat, decreasing the Highlight Gauge. When Pale Rider is defeated, Brainwash will be cured instantly, and when Red Rider is defeated, the Highlight Gauge will fill by 50% immediately. These effects can be modified based on the Distortion Level of the current stage. Additionally, Dancer of Dreams cannot be inflicted with spiritual or Control ailments, downed, or insta-killed.

Jose's Dicey Adventure

In this game mode, Wonder must collect flowers for Jose by advancing through Mementos in a tile-based gameplay system. Wonder is able to move up to 8 spaces at a time and can either roll an 8-Sided Die to move a random amount of spaces or a Loaded Die to move an amount of spaces of his choosing. Each day, Wonder receives three 8-Sided Die and a Loaded Die. In each area, the goal is to advance a total of 150 spaces in order to challenge a boss. Spaces can have various effects:

Space Effects
Space Effect
Reward Square (Flower) Gain a small amount of Flowers.
Reward Square (Shadow) Gain Flowers.
Reward Square (Three Flowers) Gain a large amount of flowers.
Random Square (Star) Gain a random special effect, such as an increase to critical rate.
Random Square (Question Mark) Gain a random effect that is more potent based on the result of a random roll. Loaded Die can be used to choose a specific result. Examples of effects include moving extra spaces, gaining Flowers, or gaining special effects.
Battle Square Enter a battle with a Shadow and gain effects and/or Flowers for victory.
Boss Square Enter a boss battle to complete the Area.

In addition, there are four separate areas. Each area has increasingly stronger enemies, but also higher minimum and maximum Flower rewards for squares. At any point, Wonder may reset his progress in a given area to attempt to earn more rewards. In Area 4, Flowers cannot be gained, movement will not cost any 8-Sided Die, and Wonder will gain 5 Loaded Die upon resetting his Area 4 progress; however, these Loaded Die cannot be used outside of Area 4.
