Macabre is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
Macabre appears to be based on an entry in Barbara Walker's The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets, which claims that Macabre is the French name of a Grim Reaper-type figure who wears a skeleton suit and carries a scythe in the Danse macabre, an artistic motif in Renaissance-era European art.[1] Walker's book is present in the Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Akuma Zensho bibliography. The actual etymology of macabre is uncertain,[2] but there is no evidence to support Walker's claim that it was named for a Grim Reaper-type figure of that name, and a figure with a skeleton suit and scythe is not a feature known in Danse macabre imagery.
