Brainwash is a Status Ailment in the Persona 5.
Profile
Brainwash is a status ailment that causes the target to attack their allies and use support and healing skills on their enemies. It is similar to Charm.
Gameplay
Persona 5 / Royal
In Persona 5, whenever a combatant is afflicted with Brainwash, they will turn on their allies, attacking them, and support their enemies with healing and support skills. They are able to score downs and One Mores like normal, although the visual effect for a One More will not play. In Royal, if a combatant scores a One More and gets Brainwashed at the same time, e.g. from a reflected skill, they will still get their One More, but will use the extra turn under the effects of Brainwash, targetting their allies.
The Protagonist will not switch Personas while brainwashed, even if it offers a weakness or technical advantage against the party, or provides support or healing skills.
Those afflicted with Brainwash are vulnerable to Technicals by using Psychokinesis skills. In Royal, reading Knowing the Heart will allow Bless skills to also perform Technicals against brainwashed combatants. Brainwash lasts one turn, and will be cured on the afflicted's second turn after it is applied.
