Eligor is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Eligor is a spirit in European demonology first attested as Alugor, the 5th spirit in The Munich Handbook of Necromancy, where he is a great duke in the form of a soldier carrying a lance, banner, and scepter. He answers truthfully concerning the occult and about duels that must be fought in the future. He provides soldiers to meet and grants the grace of all kings, marquesses, and soldiers. He has 1 legion under his command.

Eligor is later present as Abugor, the 18th spirit in the Livre des esperitz, where he is said to be a grand duke in the form of a handsome knight. He answers questions truthfully and can find buried objects. He gives good grace to kings and other lords, and he has 27 legions under his command.

Eligor is further present as the 22nd spirit in Johann Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, which draws from earlier sources. Eligor, also known as Abigor, is described very similarly to Alugor's description in the Munich Handbook, though he now answers questions about wars rather than duels, and he tells of how soldiers should meet rather than providing soldiers. He has 60 legions under his command.

In the Ars Goetia section of The Lesser Key of Solomon, which is heavily based on the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, Eligor is said to be the 15th spirit summoned by King Solomon of Israel. In the Lesser Key, the third object Eligor carries is a serpent rather than a scepter.

Design

Eligor appears as a humanoid in red plate armor wearing a yellow cape with white fur trim riding a black horse. Two horns are secured to the helmet by a silver crown-like headpiece, and glowing white eyes can be seen within. He wields a spear in his right hand, and holds his horse's reins in his left. The horse upon which Eligor rides has green eyes and a white mane and tail. While many demons in Megami Tensei are based on Collin de Plancy's Dictionnaire Infernal, Eligor's design lacks the wings seen on his horse, and wears a helmet.

In Megami Ibunroku Persona, Berith and Eligor's designs are swapped compared to the usual designs.

In Shin Megami Tensei: Nine, Eligor's armor is a bluish-grey color.
