Treasure Chests are a recurring mechanic in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Overview
Treasure Chests are a type of interactable object which typically contain a predetermined item, a set of items, money, among other possible contents depending on the title. These can be found on the field in various locations and opened to acquire their item, at which point the Treasure Chest will remain permanently empty. Many titles contain multiple types of Treasure Chests, each indicating a set of possible contents and possibly having unique mechanics tied to them. Common types include rare chests with high-value contents and locked chests that require another item to open.

Shin Megami Tensei
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne
There are two types of Treasure Chest in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne: normal chests and Mystical Chests. Normal chests, instead of containing items or Macca, may contain traps or fixed enemy encounters.
Mystical Chests have either a Life Stone or a high-value item, and the item that is given to the player is determined randomly at the point the chest is opened. The chances of the high-value item being present are equal to the current Kagutsuchi Phase. For instance: the 3/8 phase gives Mystical Chests a three in eight chance of containing the high-value item, the Full phase guarantees the high-value item, and the New phase guarantees the Life Stone.

In Persona 4 and Golden, treasure chests appear in the various TV World dungeons. There are normal chests which come in different colors depending on which dungeon the player is in, and locked golden chests which contain rarer items. The locked chests require Chest Keys to open.
Persona 5
Palaces and Mementos contain normal chests and locked chests. Normal chests contain ordinary items, while locked chests contain high-value items, but require a Lockpick or the Eternal Lockpick to open.
Persona 5: The Phantom X
Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner
There are two types of chests, referred to as strange objects, in Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner: the purple objects contain generic items, while the yellow floating objects contain unique items, cells or encounters that drop items.
Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2
There are two types of chests in Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2: boxes which contain generic items, and yellow floating objects which contain unique items, Karma Rings, plants, encounters or damaging traps.
In the Sun, the boxes are instead flowers, which behave the same way. The exceptions are in the room in 4th Layer 3F, which contains flowers with encounters and traps.
