Jarilo is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
Yarilo[a] was a festival formerly celebrated every year in Russia. It was first mentioned in 1765 by Tikhon of Zadonsk, Bishop of Voronezh, who said it was a festival of revelry and heavy drinking that lasted from the Wednesday or Thursday after Pentecost until the first day of Peter's Fast on Monday. Tikhon assumed that it was a relic of a pagan festival to a deity of the same name, and he urged the people of Voronezh to stop celebrating this festival.
Eugene, Metropolitan of Kiev and Galicia, who was from Voronezh, corroborated this in 1767, and added that during the festival a man was chosen and dressed up with flowers, ribbons, bells, a tall cap of paper, and makeup. He was given vertebrae to carry in his hands and danced.
Archpriest Mikhail Diev wrote in 1836 that the people of Kostroma still call the All Saints' Fast (i.e. Peter's Fast) "Yarilo". He also says that elderly people in Kostroma told him that it was still celebrated sixty years before writing; according to them, an image of Yarilo, who was depicted as a man decorated with ribbons and having a large phallus, was buried while people lamented mournfully.
