Principality is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
Principalities are one of the ranks in the hierarchy of angels according to Pseudo-Dionysius in On the Celestial Hierarchy. The name is derived from Ephesians 1:21, which mentions that God is far above all principality, power, might, and dominion; and from Colossians 1:16, which mentions that God is the creator of thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers. The angelic hierarchy is accepted by the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church, where Principalities are referenced to be at the top of the Third Sphere of angels.[1] Principality's Latin name, principatus (translated from the Greek ἀρχή archḗ, "sovereignty; authority"), is also translatable to "Princedom" or "Ruler".
Isidore of Seville claims that principalities earned their name because "they charge the angels below them with fulfilling the divine ministry."[2]
Principalities are portrayed as angels that are responsible for ruling, leading, and guiding people, groups, and institutions, especially the Church. They also preside over groups of lower level angels, specifically Archangels and Angels. Principalities primarily take orders from Dominions, the leaders of the Second Sphere.
