Virtue is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Virtues are one of the ranks in the hierarchy of angels according to Pseudo-Dionysius in On the Celestial Hierarchy. The name is derived from Ephesians 1:21, which mentions that God is far above all principality, power, might (virtutem in the Vulgate), and dominion.

Virtue's name in the Latin Vulgate (translated from the Greek δυνάμεως dynámeōs, "might; magic power; miracle") is used in the Catholic Church to refer to feats of strength (virtute).

Isidore of Seville claims that virtues earned their name because they "are named as the specific ministries through which signs and miracles are made in the world." A notable virtue is Melchizedek, who was believed by the Melchisedechians to be an angel, not a human being.
