Prologue

During the onset of the 21st century, humanity has reached a population of 7 billion. However, this overpopulation has been unable to halt the environmental destruction it causes, creating a land of ruin called the Schwarzwelt that suddenly appeared at the South Pole, which will inevitably consume the Earth. To combat it, the United Nations sends four ships manned by some of the most courageous soldiers from all over the world.

Meanwhile, a group of people have gathered in a conference room to discuss the state of the world. While preparations are still underway, three men watch and comment on the current news. The news reporter details how a new weapon has begun being used in the war ongoing in Eastern Europe. The use of said weapons led to the death of thousands, including innocent civilians. The third man comments how this isn't war, but instead mass murder. The first man dismisses this, saying it was an effective way to end the war. The news continues, and the newscaster describes a murder case in Tokyo, where it was discovered that the victim was in possession of illegal drugs. This led the investigators to believe that the motive for the homicide involved a drug deal gone wrong. The third man says that he thought the Japanese were better than that. The second man compares it to the drug-related crimes of the third man's home country. The newscast continues to show a rise in breaking and entering as well as theft going on in South America as a result of severe economic inflation. The men comment how some economies are growing prosperously while others are horrendous like this. The last news story explains the result of pollution going on in Central Asia, citing how fish populations have begun to decline in local rivers. The men dismiss this as the result of rapid modernization in order to compete with Western nations.

Following this, the meeting formally begins. The assembly discusses how to deal with the recently appearing Schwarzwelt. The project leader plays a slide show, showing images taken by various drones they had sent into the anomaly. The first image depicts burning buildings. The men think they are the scientific research bases set up on the Antarctic continent, but conclude that this can't be since the structures look much too big. The second image looks like a business district. They question if the images are legitimate, but the project leader confirms them to have been sourced from the drones. The next image shocks the audience as it looks exactly like a shopping mall. Everyone thinks the images can't possibly be right as they're far too absurd to originate from Antarctica. The final image shows mountains of trash and garbage. A technician explains how they lost contact with the drone after taking this picture.

The news program starts again, reporting that the Schwarzwelt has begun to grow. Countries with bases near the anomaly have begun to regroup and withdraw away from the horrifying oddity. The men remark that if word got out about this expansion, the general public would go into a state of panic. They are left with no other choice but to send people inside to investigate it.

Journey to the Schwarzwelt

Commander Gore is communicating with the Schwarzwelt Joint Project through a monitor on the Red Sprite ship. It is almost time for them to enter the anomaly. Gore gets the attention of all of the ship's crew, stating that they'll reach the Schwarzwelt in 30 minutes. He debriefs them, realizing that they've all been selected on short notice. Their goal is to go inside, and find a way to stop it. He introduces Lieutenant Zelenin, who can explain what they know about the Schwarzwelt so far. She explains that it is a natural phenomenon, and for the crew to dismiss any reports that they may have heard about it being an incredibly large blizzard, as that is false. It destroys anything it comes into contact with as it enlarges. It started out as a cylinder of only one meter in diameter, but has consistently grown since it appeared. By the time they've come to it, it has already reached to cover several hundred kilometers. If they do not stop it, it will consume all of Earth.

Gore thanks Zelenin for her explanation. From then on, the ship's artificial intelligence assistant Arthur takes over to begin explaining the crew's daily tasks. Arthur explains how the amphibious assault ships are perfectly suited for this mission, as they're equipped with a special next-generation plasma shield, which can protect them from the Schwarzwelt's destructive nature. Jets on the ships also allow them to go airborne, though only temporarily, thus allowing them to safely fly into the anomaly. He then describes the four ships that have been sent: Ship 1, the Red Spite, Ship 3, the Elve which houses many scientists like Zelenin, Ships 2 and 4, the Blue Jet and Gigantic respectively, which will provide combat support when necessary.

Here Gore introduces himself to the protagonist. He prompts him to shake his hand, and orders the Strike Team members like him to gather at the ship's deck for another debriefing. There, Gore and Jimenez explain combat and how their Demonica suits work. Jimenez had already been specially trained in the use of the suit. He describes how the Demonicas allow them to survive the harsh conditions of not only Antarctica, but the Schwarzwelt too. The suits work with their wearers to enhance their strength and protect them from harm while in combat, and the system itself can grow much like its users the more they fight and learn. The suits are extendable and customizable, so they can be made to fit the wearer as needed, and comes with many handy features preinstalled. After this meeting, the crewmates are now free to explore the vessel.

As they approach the Schwarzwelt, Arthur commands all crewmen to take to their posts. It is now time to enter the anomaly, the ships all active their plasma shields and flight systems to invade the unknown space inside. Things do not go as planned as the Red Sprite is struck by an odd lightning ball, causing them to fall off course. This also happens to two of the other ships, causing them to all crash into the Schwarzwelt. The Red Sprite makes a crash entrance into the unknown world. Upon coming to after passing out, the protagonist awakens to see the Three Wise Men chatting about the fate of Earth and the mission. The men dismiss him, and send him back to the Red Sprite, wiping his memory too as a precaution.

Jack's Squad HQ

After defeating Orcus, Arthur sends out an emergency signal for all of the Red Sprite crew to return to the ship claiming that Jimenez has been captured by Jack's Squad. Captain Jack video messages the Red Sprite, saying he's disappointed that they went back on their peace treaty, and that any friendly relations between the two crews are now over. Unaware of what Jimenez had done while spying on the squad, the Red Sprite crew will insist that Jimenez is innocent. Upon hearing this defense, Captain Jack will explain that Jimenez entered their base without permission and interfered with their experiments.

Ryan will then come onto the feed, claiming that Jimenez attempted to free the demons they were experimenting on. Zelenin is shocked to hear that they have been doing such inhumane things to demons. After more verbal conflict, the video feed from the Lighting will sign off. Unsure if the crew should try to save Jimenez, Arthur says that they're not at the point of abandoning Jimenez. He deduces that even though the Lightning is technologically stronger than the Red Sprite, it probably uses most of its power to keep Jack's Squad HQ in existence. Following this, the team unanimously agrees to go and save Jimenez, though not without complaints from some about fighting fellow humans.

Upon arriving, the crew is immediately met with two soldiers who will attempt to kill the protagonist. Following defeating the two, Arthur will announce that they've made conflict with the squad and there's no going back. Inside of the base, the protagonist will find a cultivation room with cylindrical tubes full of moaning demons who curse humans in their exhausted state. A particularly sadistic member of Jack's Squad will perform experiments on the demons, saying that they can curse him all they want. Upon noticing the protagonist behind him, he will engage in combat with him alongside two other soldiers. Upon defeating them, the protagonist will be given the option to turn off the cultivation tanks. If they are turned off, the moaning of the demons will fall silent.

Further in, a large door requiring a password can be found. Not knowing the password, the protagonist will move on, eventually encountering Louisa Ferre. She tells him that she finds human conflict very much interesting. She hints that something important will soon happen to his companion Jimenez. Further in, in a hidden room, a cowardly scientist can be found. The protagonist can interrogate him, but he claims to not know the password for the big door. Upon further interrogation, the scientist will break down, and admit to knowing the password. Now knowing the password, he heads to the big door to unlock it.

On the other side of the big door, Jimenez and Bugaboo are seen, both struggling inside of two different cultivation tanks. A soldier in there reveals that he is trying to forcibly fuse the two together. As the soldier tortures Bugaboo, Jimenez says that he better hope the experiment kills him, as if he survives he would single-handedly kill him, as well as the rest of Jack's Squad too. Jimenez will notice the protagonist in the room, and call out to him. The soldier in there will panic, and flip on the fusion device before running away. Jimenez will ask the protagonist to use the Demon Summoning Program to fuse him and Bugaboo. The protagonist links his Demonica to the experiment devices and fuses them together.

Jimenez is now reborn, now fuses with Bugaboo. He thanks the protagonist, and now goes to kill Captain Jack and the rest of his squad. He marches to the Lightning, and upon arriving he forcibly pryies the door to the ship open with his newfound strength. Captain Jack says that he's caused their squad quite a bit of trouble, and that they'll compensate for these losses with their lives. Captain Jack and Jimenez insult each other, and eventually, Jack summons a Shiwanna, Peallaidh, and a Ghoul to attack them. Jimenez attacks them while Captain Jack continues to talk to the protagonist. Wondering what his strength is, Jack will summon two Pisacas to attack him.

Upon defeating Captain Jack, he is in shock that he had lost. Jimenez says they're no longer on Earth, and there no laws to stop him from killing him right then and there. The protagonist is given the choice to either let Jimenez kill Jack, or to stop him. Either choice will result in Jimenez killing Jack regardless by tearing through his chest, and he wonders if he overdid it. Ryan is now exasperated that their captain is dead and asks what will happen now. Jimenez says that he'll send the rest of the crew to Hell, but Ryan begs for his life claiming that if he kills him, all the technology of the Lightning will be lost. Not persuaded by Ryan's pleas, Jimenez goes in for the kill, but Zelenin stops him.

Zelenin says no one in Jack's Squad has the will to fight anymore, and that they should spare everyone's lives. She proposes that they should just disarm them and then leave them to their wares. Jimenez that upon this happening, he couldn't help but view Zelenin as an enemy for a second. Upon taking all their equipment the Red Sprite crew leave Jack's Squad HQ. Back on their own ship Jimenez is ordered to go and rest while Arthur debriefs the crew again. At the end of the recap, Zelenin brings up concerns about what they're going to do with Jimenez from now on. From now on, Jimenez is to remain in a state of rest, while the Medical crew performs tests on him to make sure he's okay.

Womb of Grief

If the protagonist chooses to explore the Womb of Grief, he will eventually awaken Anahita in the First Sphere. She is surprised to see a human, especially one who has a spirit that shines so brightly. She asks who sent him, though his answer doesn't matter as she's made up her mind that she is going to kill him. Upon weakening Anahita, Demeter will appear to compliment the protagonist on his strength. Anahita recognizes Demeter and she renounces how long it's been since they last saw each other. She gives Demeter an odd artifact, which is revealed to be called a "Fruit". Anahita then opens the way to the Second Sphere.

In the Second Sphere, the protagonist will eventually encounter Alex who is fighting a Tsuchigumo. She kills the demon and has George can the area for any more lifeforms. The protagonist tries to flee from her as George performs the scan, but luckily Demeter is there to make him undetectable with her magic. Not detecting any more threats, George disengages combat mode and Alex leaves. Demeter then scolds the protagonist, telling him that he needs to be more careful from now on. After this, the protagonist encounters a Shaytan who mistakes him for Alex. Afraid of her, the Shaytan is relieved he's not her, but also states his perverse desires to eat her and drink her blood. At the end of the Sphere, Ishtar is surprised to see a human like Anahita was. She claims to be imprisoned in the Womb of Grief, and shows the protagonist another piece of the Fruit Demeter is trying to form. After fighting and defeating her, Demeter appears to take the fruit Ishtar was protecting, and Ishtar is surprised to see Demeter alive. Ishtar opens the way to the next Sphere, claiming that a demon more powerful than her awaits down there.

Alex can be found all over the Third Sphere and will attempt to kill the protagonist if they run into each other. In order to escape, he must use several Phase Shifters to escape her. Upon reaching the end of the Sphere, the protagonist runs into Alex fighting the demon Amon, who she kills, leaving him stunned as to how a human can be so powerful, and she takes the Fruit that he was holding onto. Following his death George scans the area to detect an unknown Demonica behind her, she attacks leaving the protagonist with no other choice but to fight her. Unfortunately for her, Alex is weakened from her previous fight and her suit is not at full combat efficiency, so the protagonist actually stands a chance. Soon overwhelming her, Alex has no choice but to retreat into the next Sphere.
