The relief of Cernunnos on the Pillar of the Boatmen
The Pillar of the Boatmen in modern-day Paris features an engraving of a horned man with an inscription above that apparently reads "Cernunnos" (though this inscription is now damaged). This engraving has often been interpreted as a Gaulish deity of that name. Similar depictions of a horned man can be found in other locations in the former Gaul.
The name Cernunnos probably derives from the Proto-Celtic *karnos, meaning "horn".

Translation: A Celtic god worshiped in part of France and England. He is a god who presides over forests and the harvest, but in Rome he was identified with the Roman god Mercury, as an envoy of the gods and one who guides the dead. As his name, "the horned one", suggests, he was depicted in most cases with a pair of deer antlers, sitting cross-legged like the Buddha.
