Shadow Kanji is the Shadow of Kanji Tatsumi which manifests after he is dropped into the TV World. The Shadow wears a bath towel as a loincloth. After being rejected by Kanji, the Shadow turns into a large muscular man surrounded by roses and carrying Ares symbols to represent masculinity. Shigenori Soejima's concept is that Kanji began to question himself and wonder if he likes Naoto and has a certain preference, and his Shadow is the result of his own misunderstanding.[1]

Game Appearances
After Kanji is thrown into the TV World on May 17th, his repressed feelings resonate with the TV World, and a version of him appears on the Midnight Channel. He introduces viewers to a TV program about gay hangout spots.[a] Due to his poor interpersonal relationships, especially with girls, the real Kanji started telling himself it would be easier to pretend to be gay and be with a man. Due to him telling himself this while not really being homosexual or even understanding what homosexuality is, his dungeon turned out as the Steamy Bathhouse.[2][3]
The Investigation Team finds Kanji and his Shadow born from the same repressed feelings in bath #11. Shadow Kanji asks the real Kanji if he is tired of deceiving people, including himself. He rants about girls and how he finds them scary because they constantly questioned why he liked sewing and painting "despite being a guy". He questions what it means to be a guy and what manliness is. His Shadow says he likes guys, and that guys wouldn't tell him things like, "despite being a guy". Kanji rejects his Shadow after this, and his Shadow transforms into a muscular giant holding Ares symbols with two Shadows named Nice Guy and Tough Guy at his side. After the boss battle, Kanji continues to reject his Shadow as it begs for someone, anyone, to accept him. Kanji punches his Shadow, then finally admits that it is part of him. It's not really about men or women, he's just a chicken who is terrified of being rejected. Kanji accepts his Shadow and it turns into the Persona Take-Mikazuchi.

Notes
- ↑ "Hatten! Boku no Machi" is a parody of the NHK program "Tanken, Hakken! Boku no Machi", but replacing the "Tanken, Hakken!" part with the phrase "Hattenba" meaning "gay hangout spot".
