Shadow Chie is a character in Persona series. It is the Shadow of Chie Satonaka.
Profile
Shadow Chie is the Shadow of Chie Satonaka which manifests after Chie hears Yukiko's voice in Yukiko's Castle. After being denied by Chie, it transforms into a dominatrix sitting atop multiple girls in Yasogami High uniforms. Shigenori Soejima designed these figures in the image of people other than Chie (mainly Yukiko).[1]
Gameplay
Game Appearances
On April 17th, the protagonist, Yosuke, and Chie enter the TV World to save Yukiko Amagi. Once Teddie leads them to Yukiko's Castle, Chie immediately takes off by herself to rescue Yukiko. The boys catch up to her on the 2nd floor. After hearing Yukiko's voice talking about Chie, Chie's Shadow appears before the group. Shadow Chie reveals that Chie is jealous of Yukiko's looks and how boys pay attention to her, and that Chie can't do anything by herself. As a girl, she feels inadequate when compared to Yukiko, as if Yukiko has her beat. Due to this, Shadow Chie gets a kick out of how Yukiko depends on Chie, and this is why Chie is friends with her. After hearing this, Chie denies that her Shadow is really her. This causes her Shadow to transform into a figure resembling a dominatrix sitting on top of multiple long haired girls resembling Yukiko that attacks the protagonist and Yosuke. After the boss battle, Chie acknowledges that she tried to ignore this part of her, and her Shadow turns into Tomoe. But Chie clarifies to the others that, contrary to how her Shadow made it seem, she really does value Yukiko as a friend. The Shadow presents an alternate possibility for the person it came from: While the real Chie treasures Yukiko as a friend, her Shadow looks down on Yukiko.[2] Throughout the rest of the game, Chie proves that her Shadow targeted a very real insecurity of hers as she continues to compare herself to and feels threatened by different girls, such as Rise,[3] Chihiro,[4] and Naoto.[5]
