Tomoe was a female samurai during the Heian period.

Design

Tomoe is somewhat macho-looking as Chie's Persona was designed to reflect her own preferences. The yellow track suit is an homage to one of Chie's favorite martial artists and movie stars, Bruce Lee. Soejima added the motorcycle helmet that covers Tomoe's face because he thinks motorcycles are cool.

Gameplay

Persona 4

In Persona 4, Chie starts with Tomoe. It transfigures into Suzuka Gongen upon maxing her Social Link.

Manual Descriptions
Persona 4	As a high-ranking female samurai, Tomoe Gonzen was an unusual figure in feudal Japan. When her lover Yoshinaka Minamoto made a bid to become the Minamoto clan leader, she fought to defend him against the other branches of the Minamoto family. However, accounts vary regarding her actions during the final battle in which Yoshinaka died.
