A Wii U with its controller, the Wii U GamePad

The Wii U is a home video game console developed by Nintendo as the successor to the Wii. It was released on November 18, 2012 in North America, November 30, 2012 in Europe, and December 8, 2012 in Japan.

The Wii U is the first Nintendo console to support high-definition graphics. The system's primary controller is the Wii U GamePad, which features an embedded touchscreen along with a D-pad, twin analog sticks, and action buttons. The screen can be used either as a supplement to the main TV's display or in some supported games to play games directly on the GamePad's screen. The Wii U Pro Controller can be used in its place as a more traditional alternative. The Wii U is backward compatible with most of the Wii's existing software, controllers, and accessories, including the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers, the Classic Controller, and the Wii Balance Board.

The console's online functionality centered around the Nintendo Network platform and Miiverse, an integrated social networking service which allowed users to make posts and share screenshots to game-specific communities. The Miiverse service was discontinued on November 7th 2017,[1] while Nintendo Network and online play for the Wii U, as well as the Nintendo 3DS, was discontinued on April 8th 2024.[2]

The first and only Megami Tensei game released on the platform was Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE on December 26, 2015, though emulated Virtual Console re-releases of several Megami Tensei titles were available for purchase.
