Uriel is an archangel mentioned in the Book of Enoch and in 2 Esdras, which are not considered canonical amongst most Jewish or Christian denominations, though these texts are accepted as canonical by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

Shin Megami Tensei (A-Mode DDS)	Origin: Israel One of the 4 heralds, the seraph of earth. Uriel was considered at one time a fallen angel by the Eastern Orthodox Church. He's said to be the governor of Tartarus who will sentence all souls on Judgement Day.
Shin Megami Tensei V	One of the four major angels. His name means "flame of God," and he possesses knowledge of all celestial phenomena. He is also the first angel Satan met after falling to Earth.

Uriel is one of the elders of the Center. After turning Zayin to stone, he confronts Aleph alongside Raphael in an attempt to kill him.

Majin Tensei

Uriel is the true identity of Étienne Alphonse Laflèche. After stage 20 is cleared, should the Protagonist accept his proposal to join him on his journey, he will transform into his angelic form and reintroduce himself into the party as a controllable demon ally. Uriel's recruitment serves as the main condition to allow the Protagonist to recruit the other 3 major archangels at later points in the game.

Normally, recruiting Uriel signifies that the Four Heavenly Kings cannot be recruited, as they view their goals in opposition with one another, but if the Protagonist met Izanami with the Palace Ring in his possession at stage 19 beforehand, she will make it possible for the two groups to reach a compromise and be able to be recruited at the same time.

If the Protagonist still has Uriel in his party when defeating the final boss, he will appear to comment on the outcome of events that take place. In the Dark ending, before the Protagonist returns to the human world, Uriel says that he and the other Archangels have sealed off the entrance to the Demon world and that although they defeated Satan, what the Protagonist is striving for differs too much from they are striving for. He warns him not to turn away from the consequences of his actions and parts ways with him.

In the Neutral and Light endings, he accompanies the Protagonist back to the human world and reappears in his form as Étienne, offering his condolences about the Heroine's sacrifice. Though unsure of what to say, he still attempts to console him by saying that ultimately it was her decision, and doubts that she regrets it, so theres no sense in letting it get him down.

• Uriel's party sprite from the Super Famicom, PlayStation, and Game Boy Advance versions of Shin Megami Tensei appears more similar to Raphael's artwork than Uriel's.
