Profile

Origin

Dormarch, also spelled Dormarth, is a legendary hound from Welsh mythology associated with Gwyn ap Nudd, the ruler of Annwn, the Welsh equivalent of Heaven. Dormarch is mentioned in the Dialogue of Gwyn ap Nudd and Gwyddno Garanhir, a poem preserved in the Black Book of Carmarthen. In the poem, Gwyn describes his role in gathering the souls of fallen British warriors with the aid of his hounds, identifying Dormarch as one of the Cŵn Annwn, the "Hounds of Annwn".
