Origin

Tehom is a Hebrew word used to refer to large bodies of water, and its use here comes from Genesis 1:2, which states that, prior to creation, "darkness was upon the face of the deep (tehom)". This term is linguistically related to the name of Tiamat, both coming from the Semitic root t-h-m, meaning "sea"; also notable in the Genesis creation narrative is that God places a firmament (heaven) to "divide the waters from the waters", which has been compared to Marduk's cleaving of Tiamat in two. Some scholars have suggested that Genesis's creation narrative is an adaptation of or polemic response to the Babylonian creation epic the Enuma Elish where the non-personal tehom of Genesis replaces the personified Tiamat of the Enuma Elish; however, there is not enough evidence to know for certain whether the author was aware of the Enuma Elish.

While the Genesis creation narrative is not part of Islam, the Qur'an's narration of creation similarly mentions that the heavens and earth were once one mass which was split apart.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

In the Peace route of the Canon of Vengeance, after the Nahobino reunites with Aogami and defeats Tiamat, Yoko sacrifices her body and soul to summon Tehom in an attempt to continue the will of that Qadištu. Tehom breaks into reality from the void and attacks the Nahobino and Tao only to be defeated, returning to the void.
