The Qadištu are the main antagonists of Vengeance. Prior to the events of the game, Samael and other children of the Serpent conspired to take revenge on the Horned Gods and the order their rule perpetuated, and summoned the Qadištu from another realm in order to fulfill their plans.[1] Long before the start of the game, the Qadištu manipulated a weak willed human into killing the Yakumo family, leaving the young Shohei Yakumo an orphan who would as an adult dedicate his life to the elimination of demonkind, becoming a relentless enemy of the Qadištu in the process.[2][3]
Nomenclature
Qadištu is the Akkadian form of a feminine noun derived from a Semitic root meaning "holy" or "set apart".[4] Specifically, it comes from the triconsonantal root q-d-š.
Qadištu, along with its Hebrew cognate קְדֵשָׁה qəḏēšâ which occurs in the Bible, has since the mid-19th century been interpreted as meaning "sacred prostitute", i.e. a priestess who perform sex acts as a cultic function, though that interpretation has been challenged in current scholarship.[4]
In Akkadian the word qadištu is used exclusively for female cultic functionaries with a diverse set of roles, primarily cultic practices but also wet-nursing and midwifery; it has no sexual connotations.[4] However, in Hebrew, the term came to be used for either a priestess or a prostitute (but never both at the same time), and, according to Jessie DeGrado (2018), had even been generalized to refer to any single unmarried woman who was employed outside of the household.[4]

- ↑ "Samael: Are you aware that it is the first ruler, the bull god Marduk, who is responsible for twisting this world? He placed a curse upon the throne such that his reign would persist, even should his rule be challenged. And the system that governs this world allowed it. Perhaps because it would not stymie the continuation of the cycle... Therefore, we, the followers of the serpent, seek to erase that curse, the system, and this world that has been wrought with oppression! To that end, we summoned the Qadištu from another world, and have been acting on our agenda long before that outlier, Lucifer, made his move." Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Developed by ATLUS.

Well-liked, too-a good reputation. But both of them were killed when Yakumo was very young... and evidence suggests that the Qadištu were the ones behind that, in actuality. Having lost his parents that early, and considering his own spiritual sensitivity, it looks like Yakumo was alone for most of his adolescent life." Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.
