Profile

Origin

Old Ones, as a term, is most commonly used for the Great Old Ones, as well as other categories of entity of the Cthulhu mythos, not representing any specific entity. While originally used to reference Cthulhu-adjacent beings in Lovecraft's work, in Derleth's mythos onwards, the Great Old Ones are a pantheon of ancient deities that once ruled the Earth. Of the Great Old Ones in the Cthulhu Mythos within Shin Megami Tensei, there exists Cthulhu, Hastur, and Cthugha.

Out of the possible references, Old Ones could be a representation of the Elder Things seen in At the Mountains of Madness, which are said to be ocean-dwelling, 25% vegetable beings, standing 6-foot tall with a 7-foot wingspan. They were the first beings to colonise Earth, with genetic information older than any Archean clade. They are also said to have tentacles, and tube-like appendages designed for feeding around the head. When dead, they emit an indescribable stench. They are said to be mentioned in the Necronomicon as beings of primal myth.

Design

The design of Old Ones resembles the description of Elder Things in At the Mountains of Madness, albeit lacking the vegetable aspect of the design. They do, however, have wings and tentacles, among other traits, such as tube-eyes.
