Trivia
Nomenclature
Japanese: 弥勒, romanized Miroku comes from Middle Chinese: 彌勒, Baxter: mjie lok, likely transliterated from Middle Indo-Aryan forms of the name Maitreya which use the plosive /k/ rather than a semivowel.
The Japanese term 菩薩 bosatsu is borrowed from Middle Chinese: 菩薩, Baxter: bu sat, abbreviated from Middle Chinese: 菩提薩埵, Baxter: bu dej sat twaX, a transliteration of Sanskrit: बोधिसत्त्व, romanized bodhisattva ("enlightened sentient being").
