Maitreya is first mentioned by the citizens of Tokyo to Ayato Katsuragi saying that in the Millennium HQ a new Messiah has appeared, so when Katsuragi goes to investigate and learns about the dissapearances of the higher ups from the Millennium HQ he goes to the aforementioned place and learns that the Archpriest has been manipulating him and has been killing the higher ups of the organization and reveals himself to be the demon Belphegor the Tyrant. After he's defeated by Katsuragi Maitreya gets mad at him for being able to defeat Belphegor and so a fight begins.

Trivia
- Despite being named Maitreya, he has no relation to term in Buddhism, however he is called the new Messiah that will bring peace to Tokyo at some point as the term is used to describe the coming of the new Buddha.
