Reason: What book?

According to a Famitsu interview with Kazuma Kaneko, Gashadokuro has its origin in a yokai encyclopedia published in the 1970s.[1]

Design

Gashadokuro is depicted in the Devil Summoner series as the upper half of a giant human skeleton with the letter "G" on its forehead. According to Kazuma Kaneko, its large size is because of its formation from a gathering of spirits.[2] Its eye sockets are distorted, giving the impression of an angry brow. Its color in its Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner design is a greenish off-white color, while in Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, it is red.

巨大な骸骨の妖怪。野原などで野垂れ死にした人々の恨みが集まって生まれるとされる。

太陽の照っている昼間のうちには、ガシャドクロは姿を見せることはない。夜になってあたりが暗くなると、「ガシャガシャ」という音をさせながら、何処からともなく歩いてくるのである。

ガシャドクロは人を見つけると襲いかかってくる。野垂れ死んださびしい者たちの霊である彼は、仲間を求めているのかも知れない。
