Daleth is a character in Shin Megami Tensei II.
Though Daleth is his default name, the player is permitted to rename him should they wish in the beginning section of the game.
Profile
A stubborn man who's singular goal is to defeat Aleph in any way he can to prove himself as the true messiah, viewing Aleph as the false messiah that must be defeated by him. Despite this he is described as a kind and good man, particularly by the fairies in Shinjuku.
His appearance is reflective of the Hero's, wearing green, the color of his cape, along with armor, and is equipped with a COMP. His face has two large scars and a small one near his chin, and he has black spikey hair. In the Playstation version of his design, Daleth's singular headpiece connected to his COMP is replaced with a blue visor. "Daleth" is named after the 4th letter in the Hebrew alphabet, whose name means "door".

Game Appearances
At the beginning of the game in Valhalla, just before Hawk faces Red Bear in the Colosseum, Hawk receives a flashback in which a mysterious man asks him to name someone. If he chooses not to, he will be told the person's name is Daleth.
When Aleph returns from his visit to Arcadia, he is told by the Center Bishop of a false Messiah disparaging his name. This false Messiah is Daleth, who publicly challenges Aleph to a fight to the death at the Colosseum, believing Aleph to be the false Messiah and himself to be the true Messiah. During the fight, Daleth momentarily gains the upper hand against Aleph, but just as he tries to strike the final blow on him, Beth steps in his way and takes the hit instead, though Daleth then blames Aleph for this, mistakenly believing he made her shield him. Aleph eventually manages to defeat him and is given the choice to kill or spare him, the latter which a dying Beth will plead Aleph to do if he chooses to kill Daleth at first. No matter Aleph's choice, Daleth escapes with his life intact.
He is encountered again when he ambushes Aleph on his way to save Hiroko from the Internment Facility, though he escapes again when he is defeated, dropping the Mars Pillar in the process.
The next time he appears is when Aleph goes to the Grand Church to venture down into the Underground, where he ambushes him before he can make it to the elevator. This encounter ends the same way the previous one did, in his failure, leaving him to flee with what little energy he has left.
When Aleph's party make it to the Shinjuku area of the Underground, Daleth appears alongside two fairies named Hanoun and Puck, whom he employs in his latest plan to defeat Aleph, the plan being to use Puck's Infidelity Sap on Aleph so he would fall in love with Hanoun. The plan fails when the Infidelity Sap hits Hiroko instead, making her become enamored with Daleth and making her leave Aleph's party. Despite not appreciating the brainwashed Hiroko's affections, he considers it a victory over Aleph. His plans are ruined though when Hanoun, who secretly had a crush on Daleth, helps Aleph break the spell on Hiroko and then uses the Infidelity Sap to make Daleth enamored with Hanoun instead. Daleth from then on stays with the fairies and Hanoun, letting go of his desire to defeat Aleph due to the Infidelity Sap's brainwashing effect.
He is mentioned by Mekata when Aleph's party meets him again inside of Abaddon, who reveals that Daleth's role in the Messiah Project was to be the false Messiah killed by Aleph to boost his popularity and fame.
On the Neutral route, after Aleph defeats Lucifer, Daleth appears outside Kether Castle to alert Aleph that the Kuzuryu is awakening. In the Chaos ending, he appears alongside the other residents of the underground to congratulate Aleph.
Visionaries
Daleth is featured in five Visionary cutscenes in the Game Boy Advance and iOS versions of the game.
In "The 13th Report", though not physically present, he is discussed by the Center Bishop and Zayin, the former saying that Daleth has escaped the Center, though he clarifies that this is part of the prophecy, and then orders Zayin to secretly keep watch over him until the true Messiah appears to defeat him.
In "Practice Wooden Sword", a young Daleth is sparing with a Holy Knight, who compliments his fighting prowess and refers to him as Lord Daleth. The Holy Knight then puts a pause to his combat training and tells him to head to the Center Bishop's theological lecture, to which Daleth begrudgingly complies with. The scene then cuts to the Center Bishop teaching Daleth about the Messiah, not-so subtlety putting the idea in his head that Daleth himself is supposed to be the long awaited Messiah. The Center Bishop then cruelly snickers to himself at the end of the cutscene.
In "#0 Prophecy File", the Center Bishop continues to teach and manipulate Daleth into thinking he is the destined Messiah. He tells him that the prophecy details that the Messiah must undergo much suffering in the wilderness all alone and gain the favor of the people. He insists the prophecy cannot be defied, and then tells Daleth that the final trial of the Messiah is to defeat the false Messiah, who will appear with a grudge against the true Messiah and seek only to increase his own fame. From all the information the Center Bishop has told him, Daleth concludes that the ultimate goal of the Messiah is to defeat the Anti-Messiah, to which the Bishop plainly states that it is clearly written in the prophecy.
In "Broken Visor", which takes place after Daleth has been brainwashed by the Infidelity Sap and Aleph has left for the Makai, Hanoun is examining a flower while Daleth laments that all of his attempts to get the best of Aleph have failed, and that he will likely never be able to surpass him. When Hanoun attempts to comfort him, their attention is suddenly grabbed by a distressed fairy running away from a stray Bit Ball, which Daleth quickly destroys. After admonishing the fairy to be careful, he resolves to himself that while he will never be able to beat Aleph, he has a new purpose and life living with the fairies, and he is content with that, making Hanoun say his name dreamily.
In "Torn Cape", which takes place after Daleth has initially been defeated by Aleph, Daleth visits Shinjuku to receive treatment for his wounds and finds Hanoun's store, meeting her for the first time. She hurriedly treats his wounds while he tries to express his gratitude to her, though he inadvertently keeps hurting himself from his exaggerated movements, causing Hanoun to request he lies down. While he obliges her request, Hanoun comments to herself that he is cute.
End of spoilers.
Manga Appearances
In this fanbook, there is a short comic titled "Aru Ai no Uta: Hanoun to Daleth no Maki"[1], featuring the two aforementioned characters. In it, Daleth and Hanoun lay together in a bed in the aftermath of implied intercourse when Daleth gets up and announces he wants to separate from Hanoun, which leaves her a bit shocked. She begrudgingly accepts his decision, but before he can move any farther from her, his mind immediately changes and he proclaims his love for Hanoun again and goes back to her, a side effect of the Infidelity Sap's brainwashing.
The scene then cuts to Satan pressing a button inside the Megiddo Ark that activates it's Erase function, at which then the scene cuts back to Daleth and Hanoun in the middle of intercourse just before the wave of energy from the Ark kills them.
End of spoilers.
