Design
In Shin Megami Tensei V, the Angel was redesigned by Masayuki Doi to better suit their role in the story. Their clothing, wings, and halo were all inspired by recurring motifs in religious paintings. The mask was intended to convey the Angel's puppet-like loyalty towards YHVH. The Angel's facial features, voice, and body were made purposefully contrastive to reflect the sexual ambiguity of angels in mythology. Some of their animations were designed to look regal, while others were intended to mimic the movements of a broken puppet.[1]
