Origin

A zombie is the soulless body of a dead person reanimated by an evil Vodou sorcerer. English professor Amy Wilentz has posited that the zombie represents an enslaved Haitian person who cannot escape slavery even in death, while the evil sorcerer represents the French slavemaster.

In popular fiction, the zombie is no longer associated with Vodou, and is often reanimated by a viral or parasitic infection.

Shin Megami Tensei (A-Mode DDS)	Origin: Haiti Humans brought back to life without souls. Demons rip out the souls of criminals and villans[sic] to control their bodies. It is said that the victims of zombies become zombies themselves.
Shin Megami Tensei II (A-Mode DDS)	出身地：ハイチ 死んだ人間が魂を無くした状態で生き返ったもの。悪魔が犯罪者や、悪人の魂を体から抜き去り、コントロールするもの。ゾンビに襲われた犠牲者もゾンビになるといわれる。 Translation:
Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon	An undead demon that appeared in the Capital. It is a lower-class being with no real mind of its own. It is similar to the zombies created through Vodou, but different in the manner of its creation.
