According to Julius Caesar's Commentaries on the Gallic War, the Gauls used a large wicker effigy filled with people for human sacrifices. The historicity of this has been questioned in modern scholarship.

• According to Kazuma Kaneko, the original design for Wicker Man was a full humanoid figure made out of pieces of wood; however, it looked too similar to a straw doll so that concept was scrapped.
