The vodyanoy or vodyanik[a] is a river spirit in the folklore of the Slavic-speaking peoples in Eastern Europe.
An analogue can be seen in the vodník of Czech folklore.

Vodyanik comes from the Common Slavic root *voda, meaning "water".
