Vine is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Vine is the 45th spirit said to have been summoned by Solomon in the Ars Goetia section of The Lesser Key of Solomon. He is a King and Earl of Hell in the form of a lion who rides a black horse.[1] He is said in the Ars Goetia to be in command of 35 legions of spirits, and he is able to find hidden things, witches, and things past, present, and future. He has power over stormy waters and can overthrow great stone walls.[1]

Design

Vine appears in Shin Megami Tensei if... as a giant bipedal simian-esque lion creature with yellow fur. Its face is a lion's and is located on its chest area. A horned skull is at the top which, according to his concept artwork notes, is like a crown.[2] He rides a black horse and has a snake intertwined around his right arm; the horse wears a skull mask[3] with a horn on it.

Vine is the ruler of the World of Pride, being granted the position after swearing fealty to Ideo Hazama.[4] When the Protagonist's party confront him he is overly arrogant of his abilities,[5] befitting of his position as the World of Pride's ruler. He drops the Ring of Restraint upon defeat.
