Purson is a Demon in the Megami Tensei franchise.

Profile

Origin

Purson is a spirit in European demonology first attested as Curson, the 4th spirit in The Munich Handbook of Necromancy, where he is a great and strong king in the form of a man with a lion's face, crowned with a diadem and riding on the back of an unspecified animal. He carries a strong viper in his hand and a trumpet goes before him. He is knowledgeable of the present, past, future, and of the occult, and he can find treasure. He gives truthful answers to questions of the divine, of the occult, of divinity, and of the world's creation. He gives the best of familiars and has command of 22 legions, which are partially of the order of the Virtues and partially of the Thrones.[1]

Purson is later present as Diusion, the 17th spirit in the Livre des esperitz, where he is said to be a great king in the form of a handsome knight. He answers questions truthfully and can find buried objects. He gives good grace to kings and other lords, and he has 24 legions under his command.[2]

Purson is further present as Pursan, the 11th spirit in Johann Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, which draws from earlier sources. Pursan, also known as Curson, is described very similarly to Curson's description in the Munich Handbook, though his mount is now specified to be a bear.[3]

In the Ars Goetia section of The Lesser Key of Solomon, which is heavily based on the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, Purson is said to be the 20th spirit summoned by King Solomon of Israel.[4]

ソロモン王の７２柱の魔神の１柱である地獄の大王。ライオンの頭を持つ巨大な男の姿で現れる。

トランペットの音が鳴り響いたあとにプールソンは現れる。彼は熊の背にまたがり、その手には蛇をつかんでいる。ただしこの蛇は無毒である。人間の姿をしている時の彼の動きは、空気のように軽やかである。

彼は衣装に気をつかう性格らしく、人間の姿で現れる時にはその時代のものしか着ないとされる。

A great king of hell who is one of the 72 demons of King Solomon. He appears with the form of a giant man with the head of a lion.

Purson appears behind the sounding of trumpets. He sits astride on the back of a bear and carries a serpent in his hand. However, this serpent is non-venomous. His movements when in human form are as light as air.

He seems to be clothing-conscious, it being said that, when he appears in human form, he only wears clothes of the era.
