Navigator
The Navigator is a recurring party role in the Persona series.
Overview
Navigators are characters who serve a non-combat role during battle. They are generally not playable and cannot be included in the party, though they are always considered present and will receive experience from battles. Navigators comment on the state and events of a battle, in addition to providing information on enemies and making use of Navigator skills to aid in battle and exploration.
Mechanics by Game
Persona 3
Navigators have the ability to scan enemy resistances. The player can direct the Navigator to one enemy, where they will attempt to analyze it over several actions. Once the analysis is complete, the enemy's resistances will be fully revealed, and the player will be able to freely consult them in future battles. This is not the case for certain enemies, whose resistances will remain hidden. Analysis is interrupted if the player directs the Navigator to analyze a different enemy or if all enemies of that type are defeated. Party members can make decisions based on whether or not an enemy has been analyzed, even using information the player does not have access to, such as hidden resistances.
Mitsuru Kirijo is the initial Navigator for S.E.E.S.. She is replaced by Fuuka Yamagishi, who also displays enemy skills and learns Navigator skills.
Persona 3 Reload
Navigation now behaves as in the titles following Persona 3, where Navigators no longer scan enemies. Instead, after a turn has passed in battle, Fuuka can spend SP to instantly reveal an enemy's resistances.
Persona 4
The Investigation Team's initial Navigator is Teddie, who only tracks resistances. He is replaced by Rise Kujikawa, who also displays skills and stats and learns Navigator skills. She also learns skills through her Social Link.
Persona 4 Golden
Rise is also able to enhance the power of All-Out Attacks. The damage bonus increases when Yu Narukami takes her out on a scooter ride.
Persona 5
The Phantom Thieves of Hearts's initial Navigator is Morgana, who is also a combatant and will retreat from the front line when he runs out of HP; this state is effectively identical to when he is dead. He is replaced by Futaba Sakura, who displays skills in addition to known resistances and learns Navigator skills. Futaba's Confidant also grants her abilities outside of her Persona's skill set.
Persona 5 Royal
Futaba can upgrade her Moral Support if Ren Amamiya takes her to Jazz Jin.
Persona 5 Strikers
Futaba Sakura is the Navigator for the entire game. Her skills activate randomly during battle.
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
Navigation and Navigator skills are divided into two roles: Battle and Labyrinth. Outside of a Labyrinth, the player can assign Fuuka Yamagishi or Rise Kujikawa to either or both roles. Navigator skills only become active when the user is a Navigator that is assigned to the proper role. The Battle Navigator uses both active skills that cost the Party Gauge and passive skills that only take effect in battle. The Labyrinth Navigator uses passive skills that only take effect during exploration.
Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth
Navigation is the same as in Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth.
