Muspell, more commonly referred to as Muspelheim, is the realm of the fire giants in Norse Mythology that is ruled over by Surtr. It played a crucial role in the creation of the world: when its flames mixed with the ice of Niflheim, the former created the sun and stars, while the latter became the giant Ymir. When Ragnarok occurs, the forces of Surtr are said to depart from Muspelheim and destroy the Bifrost that bridges the realms.
Rather than being depicted as a realm, the Megami Tensei series depicts Muspell as a fire giant that will invade and attack humans at the time of Ragnarok.
Design
Muspell first appears in Shin Megami Tensei if..., where he is depicted as a blue skinned giant with red flames trailing from his legs. He received his first major design by Kazuma Kaneko in Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, where he is depicted as a giant head with red eyes emerging from the ground, with multiple corpses impaled on spears sticking out from the top of his head, all wreathed in blue flames. His third design comes from his first 3D appearance in Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon, where his look is largely similar to that of Surt, with his skin being grey and blue rather than red and black, holding a knife instead of a sword, and having a normal shaped head covered in blue flames with skull like marking on his face.

Game Appearances
A Muspell appears in the Dark Ginza-cho of another world, blocking Raidou's progress as he searches for the Flame Prism. Later on in the same area, when Raidou has sent his partner demon on a solo investigation, another Muspell attacks the isolated demon.
