Kanji's Mother
Kanji's Mother is a minor character in Persona 4.
Profile
The unnamed mother of Kanji Tatsumi. She runs Tatsumi Textiles in the Central Shopping District. She raises Kanji on her own now that his father has passed away. At some time in the past, the noise caused by a local biker gang was bothering her, which led to Kanji beating up the gang by himself.

Persona 4
On May 17th, the Investigation Team visits Kanji's mother to talk to her after a person resembling Kanji appears on the Midnight Channel. During the visit, they learn about the matching red scarves that Mayumi Yamano commissioned for her and Taro Namatame. After Kanji is thrown into the TV World, his mother appears outside of the family home. She mentions that Kanji has gone off somewhere and that he always does this.[1] When Kanji returns home, it is also mentioned that she filed a missing person's report with the police.[2]
Emperor Social Link
During rank 3 of Kanji's Social Link, Kanji hears that his mother went to Inaba Municipal Hospital and he rushes there with the protagonist. Kanji finds that his mother is fine and was only helping someone else go to the hospital. He gets worked up and goes off by himself. The protagonist talks to his mother after and finds out that Kanji hates hospitals because his father died at one; she assumes he must have been quite worried when he heard she went to the hospital too. She is happy to see that Kanji is friends with the protagonist as he never had many friends before.
Kanji's mother appears again on rank 8 of Kanji's Social Link when she comes across Kanji being questioned by an officer outside of Chinese Diner Aiya. She says her son has nothing to do with the recent extortion incidents and mentions that he recently showed her the dolls he made. As his mother, she knows he would never extort money from a child.
Persona 4 Golden
During rank 6 of Marie's Social Link, the Investigation Team asks Kanji's mother about Marie's comb. She tells them that it carries the meaning of "separation".
