Profile

Origin

Kagutsuchi, also known as Hi-no-Kagutsuchi (Kagutsuchi of Fire), is the Japanese god of fire. His birth killed his mother Izanami, and he was cut into eight pieces by his father Izanagi, resulting in the creation of several more gods.

Design

In Shin Megami Tensei Hinokagutsuchi is depicted as a humanoid figure consumed by red flames. In Shin Megami Tensei II Hinokagutsuchi is depicted as a grey humanoid with continuous streams for fire coming from his mouth and eyes that coil around his entire body. In Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon Hinokagutsuchi receives his first 3D design as a giant human with magma-like skin that has glowing red fissures or cracks, and his entire body consumed by fire.

Shin Megami Tensei (A-Mode DDS)	Origin: Japan The final child born to Izanagi and Izanami. Because he was on fire from the moment of his birth, he burned Izanami to death. Infuriated, Izanagi struck him down with his sword, Totsuka no Tsurugi. Many gods were born from the blood that then spurted from Kagutsuchi. Many others, such as Take-Mikazuchi, were born from his corpse.
Shin Megami Tensei II (A-Mode DDS)	出身地：日本 火伏せの霊験として有名な秋葉山の神。名を火之迦具土神(ホノカグツチノミコト)と書く。別名を火産霊神(ホムスビノカミ)ともいう。伊邪那岐命(イザナギノミコト)、伊弉冉尊(イザナミノミコト)の最後の子。イザナミから産まれた時に体が燃えていた為、イザナミを焼き殺してしまい、怒ったイザナギに十握剣(とつかのつるぎ)で斬り殺される。飛び散ったヒノカグツチの血から多くの神が産まれる。また、死体からも多くの神が産まれたといわれる。タケミカヅチもこの時に産まれた神である。 Translation: Place of origin: Japan
Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army	A fire god mentioned in the Nihon Shoki. Because he was on fire from the moment of his birth, he burned his mother Izanami to death. His father, Izanagi, in a grief-stricken fury, slew Hi-no-Kagutsuchi with the totsuka blade, Ame-no-Ohabari. Many gods were born from the spilled blood.
Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon	A fire god that burned his mother Izanami to death upon childbirth. His full name is Hi-no-kagutsuchi. His father Izanagi, furious with grief, slew Kagutsuchi with the sword Totsuka. Many gods were born from his corpse.

Nomenclature

From the Japanese 火 hi ("fire") + の no (genitive or attributive particle) + 輝 kagu ("to shine") + つ tsu (obsolete genitive or attributive particle) + 霊 chi ("spirit"), literally meaning "shining spirit of fire". 迦 ka, 具 gu, and 土 tsuchi are ateji.
