Izanagi is a recurring character in the Megami Tensei franchise.
Profile
Origin
Izanagi is a Shinto deity and creator god who, together with his younger sister and wife Izanami, is described in the Kojiki as the seventh and final generation of deities to appear after the emergence of the primordial gods. The two were commanded by the older deities to solidify and shape the world, and used a jeweled spear to stir the primordial waters. The brine that dripped from the spear congealed into the island of Onogoro, where they established their dwelling. Izanagi and Izanami subsequently created the islands of Japan and numerous other deities.
Izanagi and Izanami's final child was the fire deity Hi-no-Kagutsuchi, whose birth caused Izanami's death. After she died, Izanagi followed her to Yomi, the land of the dead, in an attempt to bring her back. Izanami agreed to ask the gods of Yomi whether she could return, but warned Izanagi not to look at her. He eventually broke this prohibition and saw her decayed corpse surrounded by eight thunder deities. Horrified, Izanagi fled Yomi while Izanami pursued him. He blocked the entrance to Yomi with a large boulder, separating the world of the living from the world of the dead. Izanami then vowed to kill one thousand people each day, to which Izanagi replied that one thousand five hundred people would be born each day.
After returning from Yomi, Izanagi purified himself through misogi to remove the pollution he had incurred from the land of the dead. As he discarded his clothing and ornaments and washed himself, numerous deities came into existence. According to the Kojiki, Amaterasu was born when Izanagi washed his left eye, Tsukuyomi when he washed his right eye, and Susano-o when he washed his nose. These three became known collectively as the Three Noble Children. Izanagi assigned Amaterasu to rule Takamagahara (高天原, the "Plain of High Heaven"), Tsukuyomi to rule the night, and Susano-o to rule the sea.
The circumstances surrounding the birth of the Three Noble Children differ between the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. While the Kojiki describes them as deities produced from Izanagi's purification, the main narrative of the Nihon Shoki describes Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susano-o as children of Izanagi and Izanami. Other variants recorded in the Nihon Shoki likewise give different accounts of their creation.

If the Demi-fiend completes the Burial Chamber challenges, on a New Game Plus playthrough he can visit the first kalpa's first burial chamber and be approached by a Cerberus who will send him to the otherwise inaccessible 666th floor. There he will meet the spirits of Izanagi and Izanami, who tell him that due to the world ending, they have been unable to use their strength and so have waited for one they could entrust the future to. Deeming Demi-fiend as the one worthy of creating a world they like once did, they gift him with an extra press turn in battle and send him back to the first Kalpa.
